So let me get this straight...I fill out that form, then in some amount of time I will receive these colorful little things that make the lights look all psychedelic? I'm in!

Fred can you explain a bit more what these things are? Perhaps a picture of one itself can help me better understand how they work.

I picked these up for $2 when I was ordering some other stuff from either B&H or Adorama. Basically, it's like a color swatch book except that the colors are translucent. They're also the perfect size to fit right over a flash, so you can tint the color of the light from the flash by putting one of the gels over it, so you get a color other than white.

I found 1 8X10 sheet of Gel for $5.99 and wanted every color...it is the
plasitc in front of studio lights to make the stage light red or blue or any
other color. Here is what I got for FREE!

There are about 75-150 Gells!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I asked Jack to take a quick picture on a typical example...but with gells,
you make the typical very different...very quickly. I can also flash a
backdrop to give the backround a color instead of the subject...There are
too many uses to list here. I hope that after you guys get them, you can
show me some of your ideas in this thread. I hope this gets really big and
inspires others to think outside the box....for FREE!!! If you do not have off
camera flashes, you can get a few of them for under $300 dollars or so with
cheap flash triggers from ebay.. If you get it all off ebay you can proabably
do it for under $100 for two off camera flashes. With another $100 you can
do unbrellas with stands for the two flashes... SKY IS THE LIMIT

Here are the quickie of jack showing the shot

I was asked how I did my smoke shot.... Here are some other shots
from the same shoot.

the original image....
http://derf.smugmug.com/photos/264984146_TPpCZ-M.jpg
Two flashes right under the smoke with two different gels that
were fired with no on camera flash. The camera was set to like F-
20 at 200th of a second. I was using a denim background clearly show
in the next picture.

http://derf.smugmug.com/photos/264984103_YzqtZ-M.jpg
(in the shot above, there were two flashes...one blue gel hitting
the denim background and a second flash with no gel firing from
behind the smoke towards the camera).

http://derf.smugmug.com/photos/264984007_BhjXp-M.jpg
In the shot above, I popped the red gel at the smoke and the
background...then used the blue for the background for the gradient.

If it is really dark, you can slow down the shutter to a 2 seconds
or so and get the glow from the incent...then the flash will pop
the smoke to give you this
http://derf.smugmug.com/photos/264983811_gctTE-M.jpg

Here is a shot of me using the wall as a background...the denim was
put on about 2 feet behind the incent for that background. In this
shot you can see the red jelled flash sitting on the floor out of
frame, popping the background and making the blue stand out more...
