A mile long, 670 feet high, 12 lanes wide plus a train line running down the middle, $871 million. :shock:

In Dubai, anything goes in terms of development projects as long as it can be funded and is consistent with the government's master plan to build a business and tourism hub at the crossroads between Europe, Africa and Asia. Key to the strategy is having the 'world's biggest, tallest, etc' whatever to keep people talking about Dubai and of course to attract visitors to see these things. But yeah, Hell Gate would kick their bridge's ass in a fight. :twisted:

Well, if you want to fly for EK, they (and sometimes EY down the beach) are growing in a way that they seem to be always in the market for pilots....EK minima I posted below...Now, if helicopters are your thing, Abu Dhabi Aviation is probably the place to look in the Emirates, big Bell 212/412 operator for the oil industry, minima are here: http://www.adaviation.com/employ-pilot-req.html

EK Minimum Requirements

Emirates Airline takes great pride in the work our Flight Deck Crew perform daily to 88 destinations across the globe. To ensure the continued high levels of safety and service for our passengers and employees, our selection standards for flight crew positions are necessarily high.

Requirements for Position of Direct Entry Captain

A minimum of 8,000 hours total flying time
A minimum of 3,000 hours in command of multi-crew, multi-engine jet aircraft in excess of 55 tonnes MTOW
4,000 hours flown in multi-crew, multi-engine jet or turbo prop aircraft with MTOW of 10 tonnes or more, as P1 or P2
Preference will be given to candidates with Boeing EFIS experience who will be eligible to undertake a short transition course
Must be a current Captain
First Officers, qualified as Cruise Captains, do not meet the Direct Entry Captain requirements
ICAO ATPL
English language fluency (written and verbal comprehension)


Requirements for Position of First Officer - A330/A340 and B777

A minimum of 4,000 hours total flying time
A minimum of 2,000 hours multi-crew, multi-engined jet aircraft experience
ICAO ATPL
English language fluency (written and verbal comprehension)
Experience commensurate with age
Type rated would be advantageous

damn, i've got the PIC time, just not the total min they want...


Unrestricted ATPL (helicopter)
Valid Class 1 Medical
3500 hours in helicopter (1200 as PIC)
100 hours night (15 in helicopter as PIC)
75 hours instrument (50 in helicopter as PIC)
Experience in Twin Engine Bell Medium Helicopters

those are the helo requirements from the website, but getting an ATP just to go fly in a sanbox....
