Headed out this morning for a day of spotting with Colin, our visitor from Hong Kong. I picked him up at the Jamaica LIRR station, and we headed out to Howard Beach. It was odd - when I left home, ATIS was reporting Rwy 31L departures, with winds 280 @ 10+ kts. When we got to HoBe, 22 L/R was in use, with some 31L intersection departures. We ended up missing the Cathay 777 and JAL 744, which went off 22L. After about 30 minutes, they switched back to 31L departures. We had an interesting encounter with NYPD (as noted in the Spotter Blotter). The weather was amazing - yes it was cold, but not brutal, and the sky was perfect! Not a hint of a cloud, and a nice deep blue that you only see around here in the winter. Well, enough yammering, how about some photos!

How about the wing flex on this mighty Airbus :D

Speaking of back-to-back departures, we were treated to a pair of World MD-11s, one with Air Canada markings, one without.

This guy departed late, so they were back to 31L by the time he went out.

We broke for lunch at the Bayhouse, then headed to Firestone for arrivals. I'll post some of those later. It was a great day of spotting - perfect skies, some neat subjects. Colin, it turns out, is a 777 First Officer for Cathay, and a super nice guy! I got to hear about life in Hong Kong and all about the 777. Hard to beat a day like today.

One of our more underpowered 320's. Great catch none the less. One was PHX and the other LAS. No Airbus operations at JFK normally scheduled are flown with east metal or the USAir call sign. the closest thing to east metal you will see is the Air Shuttle (Mesa) CR9 that runs the CLT trips out of JFK now.

Nice shots Moose as always and I have been a fan of Colins photos for many years, very nice of you to pick him up and show him some NYC hospitality. I was off yesterday and as I was out doing my honeydo erronds I was admiring the bright blue sky and hoping someone was out taking advantage of it, I see you fully did ! Oh I am glad somebody got the visit of the Ethidad A-340-600 !

Cheers and "Welcome to New York" Colin !
