LGA LDA-A approach

So I checked the LGA ATIS today and they're using the LDA-A approach, landing runway 22 (departing 31, with winds 270/12). I'm curious why they would use the LDA-A approach over the ILS 22 approach. Is it noise abatement, since the LDA-A approach looks to be over the Sound whereas the ILS approach is right over land?

Due to noise abatement procedures, the approach selection order for runway 22 is LDA-A, VOR/DME-G, ILS 22.
