Nice shots and nice light. The Port did a couple of short runway closeures today closing 13-31 first causing operations up and down 4 followed by the closeure of 4-22 for a few hours and ops up and down 13, it was all over by I think 1430. And sorry no US Special Schemes this morning.

Cheers

Completely by chance, I got a few of the River Visual arrivals. I was running errands in midtown, and I had to stop at B&H, so I had my camera with me. I saw someone flying up the river and thought, "He's awfully low", so I called up LGA ATIS. First words I heard: "Runway 4/22 closed". I went nuts. Then I got the hell uptown. The two best shots:

These were taken from Morningside Park, at 121st St in Manhattan (!). It's not a real spotting location; there are way too many trees, and you'd probably need a 500mm lens to get full-frame shots of the smaller aircraft. But how many times in life do you get to spot in Manhattan? :D

Nice Shots.

I was on the West Side as well, Did not have my larger lenses with me as I was shooting Cruise Ships and not planes.

I saw about six 13 arrivals from 125th and Park while waiting for the M60 bus enroute to work. Even though I have seen this angle before numerous times I am always surprised at how low the traffic is at that location. Because it is a visual approach the turns can really vary and all six I saw yesterday where different.

Yeah...now think about how low they seem at 121st and Amsterdam, where the ground level is about 500 feet higher...they don't call it Morningside Heights for nothing :)

The ILS 13 is even crazier...it's a 3-degree glideslope, so aircraft are at about 1700 feet when they cross the Hudson River, and about 800 feet when they cross the Harlem River. One particular morning when the ILS 13 was in use while I was living in Morningside Heights is what originally put the idea of plane-spotting into my head...
