Hello,
Just checking in to see if anyone had planned to go out to JFK tomorrow. I am planning on going out to Firestone or the Mounds in the afternoon if they are using 31R or 22L.
Take care,
Brian

I might if the weather is good. Gonna give my 75-300EF lens on more chance. It needs a lot of light at 5.6 on the long end - so hopefully there's enough sun.

Went out to Firestone today to catch some arrivals, there were periods of clouds and sun. Overall, saw a bunch of interesting stuff. Here are some of my highlights. Later, Brian

Nice shots, Brian. I ended up at Howard Beach for a little bit this afternoon. The sun was hiding behind a thin overcast at that point, but I got a few departures.

Unfortunately, I got out there a bit late and the light wasn't great. I was at the BK and met Greg (flyguy1) there. He was just grabbing tail numbers. Here's what I got:

Nice shots, everyone! I wish I had been able to make it out there!
(And I probably should have gone out to Planeview this morning, but I couldn't get out of bed :) )

I had to go out to JFK last night to pick up my girlfriend, so I decided to head out a little early with the camera and do some light streak photos. I'm glad it was a clear night and that they were departing 31L!

Great photos everybody!
Phil, what settings were you using for those night shots?

Phil, what settings were you using for those night shots?
The first photo is 17 seconds at f/8, ISO 100. The second is 23s at f/11, ISO 100. Both were with the 24-70 f/2.8L at 70mm.
I put the camera in manual mode, set the aperture to something reasonable (I tried a couple of different settings to see what I liked best) and the shutter speed to "B" (bulb). I hit the shutter release on the remote when I could see the lights of the departing plane moving on the runway, and held it until I figured the plane had cleared the frame. Some aircraft are better for this than others, as I had a couple of others photos I discarded because the the trails were too faint.
