Painful to watch. Amazing variety. Wish we had some of those here in NY!

Indeed, painful to watch :) I'm still debating if I should go to Madrid or to Lisbon in February for spotting.

What about both? From MAD you can get to LIS quite cheaply with Vueling I think.

I'm so jealous that you got an Air Comet A340-300.

Nice job.

I will have only 3 days to spot. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sunday I will have to fly back to DC.
I hate spliting my spotting trips to few places. I want to utilize as much time as possible in one place.

Ah, then I would prefer MAD probably... Im glad you liked photos...

Rafal, I've spotted at both LIS and MAD before. LIS probably has better spots but much less variety then MAD does.

Now I have real brainer :) I've been thinking about LIS for a looooong time. Last September I went to Faro instead of Budapest and I was kind of dissapointed. I've got something around 40 frames each day.
I need airport with some action. I don't care that much about variety. I'm collecting fleets so it would be nice to get entire TAP fleet in one swing. But also MAD seems good to catch up on Iberia fleet.
I want airport where I will have 60% chances of good weather and "legal" spotting places.
I did research on LIS airport and its seems like a winer. I know that there is not many places at MAD where you can take pictures. Thats why I'm leaning more towards LIS.
I have free ticket to anywhere in Europe, and free 4 nights in Marriott hotels.
If you know of any other place where I should go (to have sun and warm weather in February) please let me know :)

I was disappointed with the action in LIS but maybe it was because I wasn't there for very long, same with Faro. I guess it really is a hit or miss depending on the day.

Have you thought about visiting any of the airports in the Canary Islands? I'm sure in February their should be a lot of charter flights to Tenerife, Las Palmas, and Lanzarote. Another good airport with a lot of spotting spots and good traffic would be Palma.

Hi Tipek,
I thought also that MAD didn't had much places where you can spot cause I never found really good infos in the web. BUT I was there and found 3-4 great spots where you can spot the whole day. You can take pics fo example in final approach, taxiways between Terminal 1 and 2 or even in the restaurant.

You will get mostly all IB planes and for sure also SPANAIR and AIR EUROPE fleets!

If you need some infos just call me I can scan you some maps where the spotting places are advised.

Canary Islands are for September or October 2008 ;) I'll be going there with few other people. Right now I need long weekend to get away from the office for few days, just by myself. Of course if anybody wants to join me - all are welcome :)

Any info regarding spotting at MAD that is not avialable on the web would be welcome (so is info about LIS).
I don't mind collecting Iberia's, Spanair's and Air Europe fleets :)

Thanks
Rafal

HLF stolen my words, thats not fair:D I wanted to write that there is also Spanair and Air Europa... But there is also Air Comet :P If I had to choose, I would rather go for MAD... And I think tipek will have dreams about LIS vs. MAD this night :D

I'd go with MAD as well. You get a variety of narrow and wide bodies and a variety of international carriers. The good thing with Iberia, Air Europa, and Air Comet is that they all have a widebody flight as well which come into MAD throughout the day. You also have the wide variety of South American carriers visiting daily such as Santa Barabara, Aerolineas Argentinas, Avianca, LAN, TAM, Pluna, and others. From Asia you have Thai, Qatar, and Air China while from Africa you have Egyptair. There are also some interesting charters that frequent the airport and you can also get some Russians such as the Cairo Aviation TU-204.

Nothing beats the morning light in Madrid either, especially in February!

For MAD you would want to rent a car because it gives you access to many easily accessible spots.

Yes I would also prefer a car BUT last year I did it without a car. You only need a good taxidriver. I had so much luck that I got one who spoke germen as well cause my spanish isn't very well and not all taxidriver speaks good english.

For example one day we used the shuttle bus and than we walked to the spotting places (aprox 30min) so its even better to have a car but it is not impossible to spot without it.
