Qatar Dumps A340-600s!

Qatar Airways (Doha) will phase out the exisiting fleet of four Airbus A340-600s sooner than previously expected. They will be phased out in 2008. Qatar also has elected to not firm up any A340-600 options.

That was the sole A340-500 that the Amiri Flight operates.

This is surprising. They only have like what one 773ER? I think its a little pre-mature to be doing this. Who gets these A340-600s? Maybe Olympic does =]!!

Who gets these A340-600s?

Maybe Ethiad? After all they just lost one that was supposed to come on line this month.

What is the reason? Is the plane too big for them and their needs?

Not too big. They are replacing them with brand new B777-300ER. Flights to IAD are being replaced January 8th. So if you want to see some Qatar A340-600 you have few weeks left.
Flights on A340-600 will continue to CDG until May 2008.

I bet Iberia would gladly jump at the chance to grab these -600s. I'm surprised they didn't try and take Cathay's!
