I'm watching the shuttle land online. It's wild to see on their radar screen how fast this thing is streaking across the sky, going state to state in a few minutes.

240,000ft up going 15,000mph. Insane!

Sorry I didn't link sooner. The video is still running of it on the ground.

I assume they are letting it cool or something?

Standard procedure, I think it has something to do with radiation needing to clear as well.

Glad to see they are home safe & sound.

Another amazing part is that they only have one chance to get it right. No option for a go-around, gliding across the country.

Great views also, especially for live footage. The HUD view, the runway view, aerial view.

Even the view of it from when it was about 100,000ft up....how does the camera see that so far and high?

that's pretty cool. was surprised how long the nose stayed up, until the chute was deployed and started slowing the shuttle. wonder if that's a manually deployed chute or if there's a weight-on-wheels sensor...

I forgot about the Shuttle landing today, but it reminded me. I was sitting here and all of a sudden it sounded like a car was dropped on the roof and the entire apartment shook. I ran outside because I had no idea what the hell just happened but I soon figured out that it was the Shuttle and the sound barrier. Something tells me he wasnt doing under 250 below 10,000

They do let it cool off a bit, but also, there are all kinds of toxic chemicals used in the rocket motors, and they need time for the fumes to vent and dissipate.
