Paul Tibbets, the pilot and commander of the B-29 that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, died on Nov. 1. He was 92. Tibbets suffered from a variety of health problems and had been in decline for two months. His historic mission in the plane Enola Gay, named for his mother, marked the beginning of the end of World War II. It was the first use of a nuclear weapon in wartime. (AP)

Wow a truly historic pilot now flies into the sunset. Hopefully his grandson continues his legacy in the Air Force.

I read that he didn't want a funeral so it would not attract protesters.

Yup, no funeral or headstone. He still believed what he did was right, and rightly so. I had the honor to meet him and shake his hand a few years ago at the Dover Air Show. A very inspiring man, to say the least.

I'm very shocked at how little attention his passing is mentioned in the press. The Daily News had his obit around five pages in. Love him or hate him he truly did change how the world has operated and will continue to operate. He was a very intense man.
