The last SAA flight operated by a B747-400, SA055 will land at OR Tambo Johannesburg International at 18:25 local time from Luanda - a very sad day - to see the departure of these workhorses. I've had many very good and happy flights on these....

I presume they're selling it? Or are they putting it in a museum like their other 74s?

I think they are all going to CX for freighter conversions.

So Mark, does this leave just the A340-500/600 for thier very long haul flights ?

A340-200's, A340-300E and A340-600's - that's all Ron

Just out of interest, I got an email from a pilot friend at SAA this afternoon - B747's have served the SAA fleet continuously for 35 years, 360 days when the last flight landed - a long history of them with the company.

I agree Mark, being born and raised in South Africa, I have flown the SAA 747-200s through the 400. Excellent planes and good memories...

Wow - didn't know there was another SA on the board....wasn't born there - but lived there 32 years...

Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg (Fourways, Douglasdale) - going back there in Feb for 3 weeks vacation - hoping to get some spotting done at JNB, PLZ and CPT
