RYANAIR have been voted the worst airline by UK travellers for the second year running.

A third of Brits polled by travel website TripAdvisor said the Irish no-frills airline were their least favourite.

The reasons given were delays and cancellations, unfriendly staff, uncomfortable seats and poor legroom.

US Airways were voted the least favourite worldwide airline over Ryanair, who came bottom last year.

Meanwhile, British Airways, who were voted favourite last year, slipped to third place but were voted top airline by travellers outwith the US. American Airlines were voted the worldwide favourite.

Both scored because of their friendly and helpful staff, good arrival and departure records and comfortable seats.

British travellers rated personal comfort more important than others.

Heathrow and Chicago's O'Hare were nominated the world's least favourite airports with Amsterdam's Schiphol rated the best.

Airport plus points included clean toilets and good parking.

Pullin no punches there. A shame for US, but congrats to American!

Well, being the 'worst' hasn't prevented Ryanair from being a very successful company, because at the end of the day, most people like cheap tickets and will endure quite a bit of discomfort and poor service to save money. If anything, this survey shows how random the travel experience can be, and how subjective 'best' and 'worst' rankings can be. As for the ratings of US and AA, remember this survey is of British travelers, so for one thing, their experience with US-based airlines is likely to have been on transatlantic flights. Most of AA's LHR flights are flown with the 777 which is modern, comfy, and with good IFE. If the travelers polled had experienced the MD80s or 757s that are far more common in the AA network, I don't imagine they'd be voting it the best airline in the world.
