My used Panasonic FZ50 wannabe-SLR came today. I'm planning to be out pretty much all day tomorrow (depending on how early I can get up :) ) Anyone care to join me?

For whoever will be at JFK tomorrow try and catch Jet Airways as it is their first day of operations. I believe the ETA is 11:15am.

Where does one get 31 arrivals at that time of day? All of the reasonable 31L spots I've been to are afternoon spots.

(I was thinking about hitting the Worlds Fair Marina in the morning...I haven't been to LGA for spotting since the beginning of the summer.)

The Marina is not very good for LGA in the morning until around 11am at LEAST. The sun is at an awkward angle (high and behind).

Others might have some good ideas for JFK 31R arrivals in the morning. What terminal is Jet Airways using? If it's T1 they might come in on 31L.

There using Terminal 8 actually!

I got the arrival time wrong, it's actually 12:45pm.

I think Jet Airways is using Terminal 4 IAT.

Incorrect. Jet Airways is indeed operating from Terminal 8. I verified this while riding the AirTrain at JFK a few days ago; as Jet Airways was listed under Terminal 8...

According to Jet Airways' website, the scheduled arrival is 12:45, which is a pretty terrible time of day, sun-wise. I'll head out to Firestone and take my chances. You know how it is with a new camera...I just want to take pictures of something :) (And it has a 14-day return policy...)

Jet Airways doesn't seem to be in FlightAware, so I'm just going to have to hope to get lucky on that one.

Well done Eric, I did not realize you were out there. I know a few others were around. I missed that plane stuck in traffic headded to LaGuardia. I cannot wait to see it though. Well done my friend!

Cargolux - I shot this one in RAW. All of my RAW pics were very noisy, especially compared to the JPEG my camera created for the same shot. Either my camera has a very good noise reducer, or I don't know what I'm doing, or both :)

I had a FZ-20 by the same branded and hated it! It had terrible shutter lag.

Yeah, and most of the skies aren't even that Photoshopped...it really was that nice outside :)

There's a little shutter lag, but not bad enough to bother me (ie no clipped noses or tails). I wouldn't have noticed it if my previous camera hadn't been so fast.

The lag that does bother me a bit is writing to the memory card...it takes about 2/3 of a second per picture for hi-res and over 3 seconds for RAW, so burst mode isn't terribly useful. Then again, I'm also not entirely convinced I need to take more than three pictures every two seconds, so I think it's a good tradeoff for the improved picture quality.

Were you at Costco? There were a few of us at Firestone for most of the afternoon...we saw the same planes from a different angle :)

What time did that China Airlines Cargo 747F came in that day??
I normally would see it in the early morning. I did manage to snapshot a China Airlines Cargo at JFK departing in a late afternoon in the summer. Was it late?

What time did that China Airlines Cargo 747F came in that day??
I normally would see it in the early morning. I did manage to snapshot a China Airlines Cargo at JFK departing in a late afternoon in the summer. Was it late?

The timestamp on my photo is 3:37 PM; he was an arrival.

Adam, i hope you enjoy the FZ50. BTW, its not a wanna SLR camera. Its a likeSLR camera, or as Tommy called it a "Hybrid" which I liked the sound of:wink:. I had a FZ30 and loved it. I hope you enjoy yours and look foward to seeing some of those shots on JP.
