Looks like a pretty solid, well-priced alternative to Photoshop Elements if you have a Mac and don't want to buy the full version of Photoshop.

Is there any advantages or different in the usual editing tool?

The Pixelmator is well worth the money. Great for editing and similar to photoshop. Highly recommend it.

Right now I use PS and also iLife works great for portraits.

one basic editing question that has been on my mind....

you know how in some portraits, you can have certain parts of the image in B/W and the rest in color? How can I accomplish that?
