The great thing about this is Syrian radar had no clue the planes crossed the boarder or were even in Syria. The attacked was reported by Syrian ground forces. The Israeli's jammed Syrian radar so successfully they had no clue. The real message here is to Iran though. Syria's radar defense equipment was built and supplied by Iran, basically saying to Iran we can take out whatever we want in you're country before you even know what's happening.

JERUSALEM - After nearly a month of official silence, Israel confirmed on Tuesday that its air force carried out a strike inside Syrian territory on Sept 6.

Israel had until now refused to confirm or deny that any air strike had taken place, though the incident was publicly confirmed by Syrian and Western officials.

Israeli officials said the air strike took place deep inside Syria last month.

Military censors continued to censor other details, including the target and what kind of forces took part.

Syrian President Bashar Assad told the British Broadcasting Corp. on Monday that Israeli warplanes attacked an “unused military building” after air defense systems confronted the aircraft last month and said Damascus reserves the right to retaliate.

Some U.S. officials have linked the raid to apparent Israeli suspicions of secret nuclear cooperation between Damascus and North Korea.

Damascus and North Korea have denied any nuclear cooperation.

Other reports suggested that the raid may have targeted Iranian arms bound for the Lebanese Hezbollah guerrilla movement and one said it was aimed at testing new Syrian air defences.

Diplomats in Damascus say at least four Israeli warplanes crossed deep into Syria during last month’s operation. against Syria on Sept. 6.

If it really was an unused military building Syria would have brushed it off with a HaHa you missed me, but really that unused building housed something with some value. I think Israel should be careful with this, all that the muslim nations surrounding israel need now is just another reason to hate them. Israel is actually taunting a sleeping giant , if you can remember the 'Yom-kippur' war between Egypt, Israel, and Syria you will see that Israel was only spared because the UN got involved, now with their updated technology (our technology gifted to them) they feel that they can walk around kicking sand at other nations and essentially say 'what are you gonna do about it?' but history shows the bigger they are the harder they fall. We'll see what happens here.

Regardless of what was in the warehouse it’s a pretty strong message to Syria and Iran that "hey we can take out you're infrastructure before you even know it." Syria's radar defense failed big time. I'd bet Israel used F-16i's in the strike that use the same like technology of the F22s

No matter what if Israel were to ever really attack Syria,Israel would have so much more to contend with. Iran,Egypt,Lebanon,Palestine and every other free spirited muslim group would want a piece of the action. They would be leveled to the ground. And if Jordan and Turkey were to get involved, man oh man what a fight that would be.

That's debatable.

Israel did attack Syria last year, and nobody attacked Israel in response.

Was irans current leader in power then?

Yes he was. I don't think Iran could rally anyone other then Syria. Egypt's mainstream has no desire for war, Jordan is at peace with its neighbors and a highly advanced nation, Lebanon...well god knows what's running that place and Libya finally woke up to the 21st century. Turkey...Turkey would never in a million years get involved. Turkey wants into the EU and that would get them a one way ticket to no where.

Iran is first a Persian country and that's overlooked allot when it comes to their influence on other Arab nations. Iran is more of a threat to the nations of the Mid East then Israel and they know that.

Very accurate, Tommy. A lot of Americans only see the anti-US sentiment from the MidEast, and very few realize the troubled relationships among their own nations.

I just don't understand why it's taken this long for both countries to "acknowledge" that it's happened. I mean, in this day and age of media the entire world knew almost instantly that Israel had bombed sites in Syria yet both nations wouldn't say anything for a month.

Analysts Find Israel Struck a Nuclear Project Inside Syria (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/14/washington/14weapons.html?ei=5065&en=259c02cddbf6503f&ex=1192939200&partner=MYWAY&pagewanted=print)

WASHINGTON, Oct. 13 — Israel’s air attack on Syria last month was directed against a site that Israeli and American intelligence analysts judged was a partly constructed nuclear reactor, apparently modeled on one North Korea has used to create its stockpile of nuclear weapons fuel, according to American and foreign officials with access to the intelligence reports. Israel may well be on borrowed time in the long run, but if Israel was only spared in that instance because the UN got involved, how is it they got large chunks of land out of Egypt and Syria?

Israel is in the nuclear club.... those missiles are coming into Israel all the time from across the border from Lebanon and those folks are not worried about it.... its not a place for the faint of heart..thats for sure.

Seems that Syria did a quick and thorough job of erasing whatever was at the site.

Good find there Matt, it does certainly look like whatever was there is history now. The Middle East is really starting to become a major concern that every American needs to sit up and take notice. We now have Turkey preparing to march into Northern Iraq to put down the Kurdish Rebels. Which is going to be a blood bath for the Turks. It seems all but certain now that we will be in armed conflict with Iran before long, and we still have our problems in Afghanistan and Iraq. We really are on the slippery slop of that entire region falling into a major regional war.
