I remember when I young, and reading about the Condors in California, how there were literally only 9 of them left.

Now I read about how Gorillas are almsot absolutely extinct. Then I read this quote from the article:

"We could fit all the remaining great apes in the world into two or three large football stadiums. There just aren't very many left."

Excuse me? I'm sure they used to be in much bigger numbers, but that's a joke.

If THAT is critical, it makes me wonder how many are left of other animals on the endagered species list.

By defination "critically endangered" means they have a very high risk of becoming extinct. Sounds like with all the species numbers they have a bit more than would qualify. That football stadium remark is kind of foolish to use. With the ebola virus and other factors they are being wiped out rather quickly. It's sad. If you want to split hairs you can say they are endagered but their future does not look good.

Phil, you also have to take into consideration what the original population numbers are.

I agree the football fields comment was DUMB. But only several weeks ago, Newsweek ran a great story on the random mass slaughter of 4 gorillas for NO reason whatsoever.

Certain tigers are also on the list.

Let me ask this....at what point to you call a species endangered? Perhaps that is the more appropriate question to ask?
