HERE IS THE LINK I FOUND ON THIS SITE (TAKEN BY "DERF") FROM LAST YEAR'S EVENT!
http://www.airdisaster.com/forums/showthread.php?p=459810%20-%20post459810

IT'S NOT TOO LATE - GET A TEAM TOGETHER FOR THIS COOL EVENT!!!!!

Here are the details:
The March of Dimes Long Island Division will host the Second Annual Pull For Prematurity on Sunday, September 9 at Sheltair, located in the Republic Airport in Farmingdale. The event actually begins at 11:00 AM but registration will begin at 9:30 AM. There will be entertainment and activities throughout the day as well!

The "jet-plane pull" features teams of 20 members (aged 18 years or older), competing in various categories in timed competitions, by pulling a Boeing 727 aircraft (via a 150-foot rope tied to a trailer hitch attached to the front wheel of the plane), twelve feet in the best time.

The registration fee is $1,000 per team, ($50 per person), with proceeds going to support March of Dimes Prematurity Awareness Campaign. Teams are to congregate at the Dave and Buster’s parking lot located at Airport Plaza in Farmingdale at 9:30 AM.

For the second consecutive year, FedEx has donated the use of a 727 jet plane and supplied an army of volunteers for the day. Nassau Flyers, Inc., D & K Aviation Inc., Kimco Realty Corp. and the American Airpower Museum are event contributors and sponsors. In addition to FedEx, other teams include Deloitte, GSE Dynamics, NAI, NLIA, Suffolk County Police Department and Reuters. Are YOU interested in organizing a team for this worth while event? If yes, then simply contact Janet Reddy at 516-496-2108 (or email [email protected]) to register your team by phone or to receive more information about this great event!
News12 will be covering this event, and there will also be activities for kids (such as face painting, magic, mini-jet races) SO BRING YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY!
(Spectators should also meet at Airport Plaza where they will be bused over to the actual site.)

The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies and in 2003 launched a campaign to address the increasing rate of premature birth. For more information, visit the March of Dimes Web site at marchofdimes.com or its Spanish language Web site at nacersano.org.

I would like to set up a team for this. If we can get 20 people here who would like to cough up $50 asap who wouldn't die if they participated, I'd want to do it.

Who's up for it?

Also, welcome to the site, MoD. Instead of posting an ad post, we could have accommodated you so much better to promote this ahead of time. I'll make this a sticky for the time being. Remember us next year!!! I just wish we had more notice. :(

Thanks Phil! I will need to get some additional info such as your TEAM NAME, etc....plus there are some things we should discuss regarding team details for day of. Let's touch base on Tuesday, if that's okay.

My apologies for not informing this audience earlier. I happened to have come across this site via a google search for this event. There were AMAZING pictures taken at last year's Jet Pull. (Thank you DERF). I will be certain to communicate it much sooner next year so ample planning take place.

Looking forward to meeting you and your team (tbd) on 9/9!

You had me until this part...I'd be glad to be the designated photographer and lend moral support to the team.

I would do it if I was 18. BTW I am on a military exercise team (varisty sport) for Army JROTC.

I'm going to be heading out to FRG to catch the 727 anyway, so I'd definitely participate.

Phil, I wanted to try it for this year but the date sprang up quickly.

I am still down for it but I doubt we can get 20 people in such short time.

If not this year, we should seriously organize this year and prepare for the 2008 event.

The guy standing next to the gentlemen kneeling in the referee shirt on the far side of the aircraft is me!!! You can even see my portable ham radio! :D I was a volunteer working communications via the Ham Radio for the event with RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service), and was lucky enough to get to stand next to the nosewheel and call the times over to the "scoreboard" for each pull. I actually met Moose also before the event started if I recall correctly, I'm surprised I didn't get to meet Fred. I also got to talking with the FedEx A&P who was sitting in the cockpit for the event and he gave me a really nice tour of the cockpit (didn't bring a camera, D'oh!!!). One team was shy by one person, so I got to pull with them as well! It was a really fun event and I'd tell anyone to get involved, as the March of Dimes is a great organization and I've been working with them via RACES for their events for the last 10 years. I would be volunteering at this year's event as well if I could, but I will be in Paris for work towards the end of this week. C'mon people, I think we can get a team of 20 out there for this!

I'll see you guys there, I'm not going to be participating....crazy age standard.
Is it going to be at the airpower museum or at the Terminal area?

Derf
2007-09-04, 09:20 AM
It is being held by Shelt Air but it should be in the same place as last time. Shelt air ramp is a little to hard and it is much easier to make the Cessna and Piper pilot walk a little more. The limos are more difficult to move around the airport than the aircraft!

I would suggest playing it as inbetween D&K and Airpower.

Any idea what time the plane is going to be coming in?

MoD Volunteer
2007-09-04, 12:35 PM
The plane will actually be arriving at FRG on FRIDAY evening at 7:45PM, 9/7.

We really would greatly appreciate those who can help pull the plane. If there aren't 20 folks to form a team, then we can certainly use "fill-ins" for other teams. (Unfortunately, several teams and team members have recently withdrawn from the event but have donated $$. Therefore, if you would like to be a "filler", and respectively so :D , then your donation would be covered.)

btw, thank you to everyone for viewing and/or responding to this post. It is refreshing to see such camaraderie within this organization.

(FYI: To those who have emailed Janet at [email protected], please be aware that her email system is unavailable till end of day, 9/4. If you'd like, please email me directly at [email protected] ).

Thank you!
Jodi

We, as NYCA, will not be able to form a team. However, that sounds like a great opportunity to get in on a team for free!

I hope some of you take advantage of that.

Well, since the update, is anyone down to BE A PART OF IT??

I'm most likely IN the event now. C'mon, who else is in??

Tom, Phil?
Eric, Other Phil?

C'mon, we may NOT be able to get 20 guys but let's see if our individual presence can be put to a good cause.

Let's get some NYCA members out there even if we can't get a full 20 people!!

Sounds like the Other Phil is in too.

Also, I'll be seeing who at my gym might be interested. You never know.

Unfortunately, yes, you must be 18 years old. Sorry! (Rules set by FedEx, not March of Dimes.)

Will it be where the F-14 usually is at FRG and fenced in the AAM's property?
Where are the rest of you photograpghers going to be setting up 'shop'?
Hopefully tomorrow will be alot clearer than today.

I told you I was going for a trophy! Thanks for the great photos Moose. It was a fun time. Our team was a mix of two companies who didn't have enough people and I was a stand in.

But I'm telling y'all, get ready for next year. It's for a great cause!
