As per a Board meeting at AZ today, the new plan is to dehub MXP and turn it into a specialized O&D focus city, with all hub operations shifted to FCO. Milan-Linate will continue in its role as a focused city airport for Milan. There will be 1000 layoffs and the government has left it up to the board to sell it's stake in AZ. AF/KL is once again favored to land AZ, as the gov't has pretty much now taken a hands off approach to the sale since its failed to sell AZ in the last round of bidding. Having MXP as a specialized focus city for O&D will allow AZ to maximize Milano's premium market potential while shifting most if not all of the lower yielding tourist/connecting traffic to Rome.

I never understook why AZ had MXP as a hub. Italy is a small country and Rome is more then capable of handling AZ's traffic. Labor there really needs a kick in the ass.
