I would love to try this and fly through hurricanes.

i still firmly believe (and i'm sure moose will agree) that in peace time there is absolutely no reason to fly into a thunderstorm, let alone a hurricane. those guys are simlpy crazy!

I've always been fond of the Hurricane Hunters. Being a Meteorology Major, in the Air Force, and going to be a pilot, I can't say that I haven't thought of how cool it would be to fly a Herk into a Hurricane. Of course, the job is a reserve gig, which means that by the time I'd even be eligible to apply for a slot (which I hear are pretty competitive), they'll probably be flying UAVs through the storms!

I talked with two Hurricane Hunter pilots a few years back, and they really downplayed the flying, saying not much is abnormal until you get right outside the eyewall and start hitting some of the eyewall bands and all. Of course flying into the eye of a Hurricane must be spectacular, especially as soon as you break out of the innermost band and into clear, calm blue skies! Some of the pictures from inside are simply amazing!
