ABX Air has agreed to purchase a B767-200 extended-range aircraft from Air China.

ABX Air intends to use this aircraft primarily to support customers requiring long-range international lift capacity.

ABX Air’s projected total cost to purchase, modify and put the aircraft into revenue service is approximately $23 million.

“This investment in additional 767 lift capacity reflects our confidence in the growth and vitality of the air cargo market, particularly outside the US,” said company president Joe Hete.

The aircraft, which is the first extended range aircraft ABX has purchased, will be delivered to ABX Air in the fourth quarter of 2007, and sent to VEM Maintenance & Engineering in Porto Alegre, Brazil, for cargo conversion.

It is expected to enter service for ABX Air’s charter/ACMI customers in the second quarter of 2008, likely becoming the 43rd 767 in ABX Air’s fleet of more than 100 aircraft.
