Saw a blurb about this in Fridays Daily News. Surprised they are having an Air Show on a
weekday. Anyone know why? Is it because they dont want the airshow crowd during the
busier weekend?
Oh well.

It's always been on a Wednesday since it started in 2003. It was always a sure-fire way to get the Thunderbirds back each year as well as a giant contingent of military flybys and demonstrations.

I did AC back in 2004 as well as last year. While it will be hard to top last the Blues & T-birds plus 2 Heritage flights and the Raptor from 2006 it's still the best beach show in the US if you ask me.

Today's "Thunder Over The Boardwalk" is Airshow of tomorrow
Published: Tuesday, August 14, 2007

Air Show Practice

2:45 p.m. Update - If you were anywhere near Atlantic City's Boardwalk today, you got a free show.

In fact, Wednesday's Atlantic City Airshow is free, too. Today was just a rehearsal that included most of the planes scheduled to appear, including perhaps the most gravity-defying aircraft of all, the US Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier II..

The Airshow takes place along the Atlantic City beach and Boardwalk. The event is sponsored by Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa and will run from 10:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
“Thunder Over The Boardwalk” will feature the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, U.S. Army's Golden Knights, the Air Force’s B-2 Stealth Bomber, Federal Aviation Administration Bombardier and many, many more. The planes will be performing in individual and formation flybys.
Michael Facenda, director of marketing for Borgata, says the casino is more than happy to be a large part of the Airshow.
“The Borgata is, once again, very pleased to be the main sponsor of the Airshow,” Facenda says, “We look forward to bringing a couple hundred thousand people to Atlantic City on a weekday in August.”
If you'd like to get a front row seat, you can purchase tickets for the “Flight Line Club,” which will be located just south of Florida Avenue. A premium package is being offered for $25 and will include V.I.P seating and unlimited food and beverages.
If you'd rather not indulge in such treats as hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream and fruit and would rather just purchase a seat, the cost is $10. Seating is limited and offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Parking is available for early arrivals at the South Jersey Transportation Authority lots on Fairmont and Atlantic avenues in Atlantic City. There will also be remote parking at Borgata that will cost $5 and includes a shuttle ride to the Atlantic City Boardwalk.

The Atlantic City Airshow has been bringing a new set of southern New Jersey visitors to the shore for years. This year, "Thunder Over The Boardwalk" is going to have more thrills and enticing elements than ever before. The Airshow, which is free to the public, takes place Wednesday, Aug. 15, along the Atlantic City beach and boardwalk. The event is sponsored by Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa and will run from 10:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. "Thunder Over The Boardwalk" will feature the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, U.S. Army's Golden Knights, the Air Force's B-2 Stealth Bomber, Federal Aviation Administration Bombardier and many, many more. If you plan on coming a few days early, you can catch a sneak preview on Monday, Aug. 13, at 3 p.m., when members of the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team will perform a jump onto Borgata's surface parking lot. Most performers will also be practicing over the beach and boardwalk on Tuesday, Aug. 14. The Atlantic City Airshow is an event that is fun and family-friendly. Jeff Vassar, executive director of the Atlantic City Convention Visitor's Authority, is proud that such a special event draws a new and fun-loving crowd to Atlantic City. "The Airshow is extremely important for us," Vassar says. "(It) brings in 600,000 people - many (who) have never been to Atlantic City before. If we convert some of those people into customers, it makes a significant impact." "They will experience the Airshow, but will also be able to experience the dining, entertainment, shopping - they're going to get hooked," Vassar says. Wow, that's a solid five hours of action. I think I'll have to head down next year.

Just got back in from the show, and it was great. There wasn't too much that I hadn't seen at either the McGuire show or the Jones Beach show (or both), but the new stuff, the B2 and the Harrier, were great. The Harrier is loud when it's just hanging out up there, but that's to be expected considering that all the lift is coming from thrust.

I took the shuttle bus from the Borgota and walked a bit on the beach. I didn't really know what would be a good spot, since I'd never been to this show before, but I ended up in a nearly-perfect spot. The Coast Guard rescue demo was right in front of me, which was pretty cool (I was getting misted from the water being kicked up from the rotors). I've been too far away from the center at the Jones Beach shows to really see it.

I filled up six 2GB cards with photos, so I'll be living in Photoshop for a while going through all of those. I'll post some when I'm done, though.

Can't wait to see some of the pics Phil! I rememver we used to get the Harrier over the river front in St Louis - it was extremely loud - but a heck of a spectacle! Sounded like a great day!

I do a lot of burst shooting at airshows, and especially today I was trying for prop blur on the prop planes, so I took lots and lots and lots of photos hoping that of the hundred or so, one will have the plane not blurry. The grand total for photos is a whopping 1,639 (yes, one thousand six hundred thirty nine). I expect that by the time I'm done with them, I'll have 200 or fewer keepers and even fewer that I would consider really good shots.

I also wasted some space on trying to do crowd shots and a couple of shots with the buildings of ACY in the photo; the big white lens I rented for the occasion attracted the attention of a magazine staffer who mentioned the possibility of publication, and that's what they were looking for. Dunno how that's going to work out, though, as the 100-400 really limited my ability to include things, and I wasn't expecting to need a wider lens when I packed, so I left the 24-70 at home.

The show was pretty good as was my luck at the $50 Blackjack table. I caught a lot of Tuesday's warmups from my Suite in The Tropicana and baked on the beach for Wednesday's show....My Unborn Daughter(28 Weeks) was not too fond of the noise from the Harrier. She trampled my Wife's bladder during its performance as well as a few times when the T-Birds were a bit low and fast. If the Guy running around in the Speedo banana hammock toting the DSLR with the huge lens posts on this site, please consider others when choosing beach attire, Thanks. Otherwise it was a perfect day with a nice cool breeze, cold beer, Hooters wings and Oysters and more Blackjack. By the way Phil I'm working 1200-2200 on Friday the 17th (tomorrow). Stop by My office, I brought You back something from the show.
