By the time Kou Wei Chiu arrived at Gate S-7 at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday, his plane was sitting on the tarmac, but the jetway door was closed, according to federal investigators.

Chiu argued with the gate agent, but she told him he had arrived too late to board the flight.

What happened next resulted in the filing of federal charges Thursday against Chiu, a 31-year-old physician from Nashville, Tenn.

After missing his flight, Chiu called 911 from a nearby payphone and claimed there was a bomb on the plane, hoping the delay would get him on board, according to federal investigators. When the call did not delay the departure of Northwest Airlines Flight 980, Chiu placed two more calls to 911 and again said there was a bomb aboard the Memphis-bound plane, according to court documents. How amazingly stupid can a person be? Generally you would imagine some one with tat much intelligence would have some common sense in a case like that. Shame
