Since being in Cusco for the past 5 weeks I have been dying to get a chance to go down to the airport for some spotting. You can't be anywhere in Cusco without hearing or seeing the aircraft flying over the city on their approach and you can't resist the noise of the 737-200s. There have been some beautiful pictures taken at Cusco in the past and I was very eager to get some.

Towards the middle of my spotting session I was surprised to see the German Air Force One, an A310, flying high above Cusco. About 30 minutes later I was quiet surprised to see it on finals! Must have been the biggest aircraft to touch down at the airport in a while.

Please enjoy and comments are of course welcome!

Gracias!

Awesome shots Gordon. Love the first two shots of the LAN landing on the runway.

I definitely have a soft spot for the 737-200s since I flew on one on Eastwind a number of years back. Very distinctive engines. I'm a little surprised to see them still flying, though; you'd think that by now operators would be able to pick up some used -300s or -400s (or later) that are probably cheaper to run. (Not that I'm complaining, mind you; I'd love to catch one in the NY area sometime.)

Great shots Gordon! Looks like a very sceninc airport to shoot at. Phil G: you can get a 200 at EWR, the Myrtle Beach Direct Air flies them, they show up as Songbird on the trackers. Also ACY sees a bunch of 200's almost daily

Thanks guys, it's a good thing I went spotting yesterday as today the clouds rolled in and now it's pretty dark.

Forgot this one:

I'd forgotten about Myrtle Beach Direct Air; I'll have to try to get myself our to EWR one day to catch them. If I'm ever down near ACY, I'll have to keep my eyes open.

Location is really spectacular in my opinion. Your second shot really captures it well. Nice grab with the German Airbus. :P
