BURLINGAME, Calif. -- Startup airline Virgin America said Thursday it is ready to start selling tickets -- except there may not be an airline on which to fly.
The airline expects more than 1 million seats to be sold for travel between Aug. 8 and Feb. 12, 2008.
However, Virgin said it does not have approval from the Department of Transportation yet to begin operations and will try to find alternative service for passengers, or will provide a double refund on tickets, in the event it is not operational by its anticipated start date.
