It was too nice a day to stay inside, and one thing led to another and I ended up down in lower Manhattan this afternoon. Spent a couple of hours wandering around shooting - I haven't even started going through those yet. I did stop by the heliport for a few shots of some tour choppers buzzing around.

Liberty Helicopters, they are one of the NY helicopter tour operators.

Great shots Moose, is it hard to shoot there? Also other then the local tour helo's and US Heli, what else comes into JRB? What about 6N5?

I really love the second one of 401LH, the back drop is fantastic, makes for a great picture.

I didn't have any problems. I was on the sidewalk between the heliport & the Governor's Island ferry terminal, right on the water. Here's a wide view from my spot - I was hoping to catch both these helo's together, but it just didn't work right:

I was using my "walking-around" 28-200mm, not the big white lens, so it didn't look like I was pointing a bazooka at anyone...

Actually N407LH is NOT a Liberty Helicopters ship. It is owned by Helicopter Flight Services Inc.

And I remember when N401LH had the blue Liberty Helicopters colors.

Actually it is N407MR and it is a Bell 206B owned by New York Helicopter which is hangared right
out here in FRG.
By the way they use the call sign "NY 7" (or is it "NY 8"?) LOL!!
Anyways the OLD "NY 7" was one of Island/NY Helicopters S-58Ts, the skeleton of one of those Sikorskys lies, for
some reason, off Farmingdale Runway 32 where the blimp ops set up.
Anyone know why that skeleton lies there? Pretty sad to see if you ask me.

[>Also other then the local tour helo's and US Heli, what else comes into JRB? What about 6N5?<

Both are extremely busy heliports during the weekdays with just about any type of helo operation
coming in (corporate, charter, private, govt etc). I didnt realize Wall Street is open on the
weekends. 6N5 (34 St) is closed during the weekends and West 30 Street(JRA) is open till late 7
days a week. Possibly all night?

JRA is now open 24/7 I believe...

JRB sure can be very busy, but not too unusual to have a sleepy day there when 6N5 & JRA can really be buzzing... ironic really since JRB is set up to handle a good volume.

Typically heavy military choppers will use JRB, but yes, apart from that, you just never know what might show up at any of these heliports.

Great Shots Moose!
