Please read this first. Some Cabin shots are now here, while these aren't the exact cabin shots of N787BA, these shots were taken at the Boeing Customer Expirence center. This is the place were customers come place orders and basically see what Boeing is all about. This week I'm going to redo this thread with a complete overview of the Roll out, the 787 reception, and the Customer Expirence Center, trust me you are in for a treat as we were.

The pics are here, click the below links I'll have them up on NYC later tonight. I'd like to thank Royal S King for letting me use his laptop to edit right here at Boeing. This was a fantastic event. Lots to tell Keep looking at the post and we'll give you more details.

Well we've arrived here in Washington and the festivities have begun in a big way this evening. Both Mario and I attended the media reception at the Future of Flight where we were all treated to a series of flybys by a number of Boeing models.

The event was very exciting Air Berlin even broke in with their announcement for the largest European order for the 787. The excitement here is amazing, everyone has the buzz and the folks at Boeing can't be nicer. Here are some pictures from this evening’s event, tomorrow we'll be at the roll out and I'll bring you pictures as soon as I can. Other shots will follow on Monday after we are given a private tour of the 787 mock up.[/size]

Good morning. Well there is a wonderful air of celebration here, especially last night. I firmly believe its comparable to that preceding a shuttle launch. lots of waiting and anticipation.

Mario -- you think Air France sent a 77W solely for this parade? I definitely don't think so. I'm sure it's a tripple that has yet to be delivered, and Boeing is simply using it in the parade. Although, I might be wrong.

Nice photos, both of you! I look forward to seeing the first few B787 shots for nycaviation.

One a side note -- I thought it was kinda funny how Royal S. King noted in a thread on a.net that he will take a photo of the B787 at the ceremony, upload it from his mobile phone, and Johan himself (the great one!...lol) will screen and accept it so that the image will be displayed on a.net within 3 minutes of taking the photo....as it is a goal of a.net to have the first photo of the B787 from the ceremony on the web. A little biased??? lol

I just think it's so unfortunate that some people turn aviation photography into such a competition, with some great prize like getting millions of hits or something. I don't really feel that's what this hobby is about. Nonetheless, humans are often competitive by nature, so all I can do is sit back and just laugh at how silly we can sometimes be!

Just sharing my thoughts, hehe. Enjoy the rest of your trip guys!

Josh, you are correct, that AF77W was using a BOE callsign, so it has yet to be delivered.

Secondly, I 100% agree with you on the a.net crap. Royal had his "parade" photo accepted within hours last night. Even for a Priority upload that is unusally fast. Just goes to show, screeners there get a LOT of favoritism.

I retract my earlier statement (surprise, surprise). While I am not the biggest Boeing fan I am quiet impressed with the 787. I have actually written two papers for science class in the past two years about the aircraft and how it will revolutionize air travel. It's the design really of the aircraft that I feel looks a bit too futuristic, I would have liked to see something more similar in design to the 777 but the 787 does look like a pretty sleek aircraft.

I'm probably just a little soar about the A350.

Otsukare samadeshta (job well done), Boeing!!! I spy my girl from All Nippon Airways, she's pretty cute too! Gotta represent my airline, ANA!

Reminds me when I worked for them last summer....sigh!

Ya, it's a nice plane, and it will be cool to spot and travel on, no doubt, but to be honest I'm more enthusiastic about the A380. That whale is just WILD! I'll leave it at that; no need to start an Airbus/Boeing war haha. Nice to see something new from Boeing though...

I was just reading that JFK will be one of the initial routes for the ANA 787 to increase frequencies. I know the 787 will definitely be seen at JFK, I just wasn't sure when. I also no Northwest wants to re-start JFK-NRT with the 787.

Can you imagine the wingflex on that thing off of 31L?!

Nice shot of the FAs. Interesting how it seems only one, maybe two airlines sent a male FA which I would say is a bit under-representing their percentage of the global cabin crew workforce. I suspect the PR people were more interested in sending something nice for the predominantly male audience to look at !

PhilDernerJr
2007-07-09, 02:58 PM
I think that by stereotype, more women are F/As than men. I honestly would think that the percentage of women there is probably an accurate representation on the international level. I think only in the US do you see so many male F/As.

Nice shots- the Flight Attendant to the right in the one shot looks absolutely hot- great shot!

This Airplane is Amazing and shows the future of Aviation, since Boeing has made a few designs that show great resemblance to the 707 - I wonder if any will be made with the 787?

Tommy and Mario - how much bigger is the 787 form the 767 since you guys saw both planes in person?

The 787-9 is about the same size as the 777-200 but not as wide. Trust me when I tell you this plane is amazing....I can't wait to edit all the pictures and tell you guys the full story. The last two and half days has been a wild ride, totally nonstop from the reception Friday night with the Boeings taking off, to the close up walk around of the 747 test plane with the 787 engines, to the roll out itself and then the private tour of the Boeing Customer Expirence Center with the 787 and 747-8 cabins on display it was simply amazing.

I will say I'm so greatful and thankful for the folks at Boeing from Adam to Sandy who made this possible I'm very humbled and greatful. I'm very proud though and you guys should be to that NYCAviation was one of the first to get pictures of this new plane and be able to cover this event for our community and group.

You're wrong at that. I flew with several international airlines, among them Iberia, British, Swiss and El Al, and my feeling is that women are no more than 60% of the FA population. There's no doubt in my mind that the airlines sent women FAs to the ceremony for PR reasons - they used them as models.

Great shots, gentlemen. Jealous I wasn't there.

I like that they made a realistic cabin mockup, unlike the ones Airbus built for the A380 which will never see actual use.

There are way more women than men in the Flight Attendant industry, I would say that the breakdown is probably closer to 75% women 25% men, & most of the female Flight Attendants are senior & many of the Flight Attendant Instructors are women.....

Try to find male Flight Attendants at some of the Asian Carriers, you won't see very many.

I know I'm not Tommy or Mario, but the 787 is 6 feet longer and 4 feet higher than the 767-300. It also has a wingspan that's wider by over 40 feet, and a cabin interior wider by 3 feet.

Well I am finally back home and settled and the event was just incredible.

Flew JFK-SFO on the AA 763 with new J seats, nice seat and seated next to the Major League Baseball's VP of operations Jimmie Lee Solomon. Then onto SEA where I met Tom and we just hit the ground running!

Staright up to Everett for he Saturday evening reception, watching the Boeing "700" series of aircraft depart, then walking around of the 747 test plane with the 787 engines.

THe roll out expereince itself was simply beyond words. TO be there was such a thrill. We were given a tour of the Boeing Customer Experience Center with the 787 and 747-8 cabins on display.

I'm just glad I got to represent the site and bring some of the inside aspects to view.
