Here is the question. In your opinion what is the most famous aviation photo ever?

Even though it's a bit morbid I feel it is AA Flight 191. Someone caught the doomed 3 holer while it rolled with the hydraulic fluid coming out where the engine ripped the lines open. Moments before it hit the ground. He also caught the fireball after.

Thats quite a shot Nick.

I seem to remeber a simailar one of a doomed 727 in Florida or California someplace.

The Most famous aviation disaster photo though is probalby the Hindenburg bursting into flames in Lyndhurst New Jersey.

2nd most famous is probably the doomed concorde in France.

As for films of crashes, at one time (probably still) the Air Force had what seemed like dozens of crashes of test aircraft over the years. Really heartbreaking stuff. pilots struggling to maintain stability and then...BOOM...

I would say most famous is Hindenburg, second is actually probably the Jetblue 320 with the twisted gear. It was all over every news station in the country.

I've seen the AF A340 over Maho Beach from a.net in all sorts of non-aviation sources...

Definitely I'd say the Hindenburg, but I'd also vote for the PSA 727 going down after the midair collision with that GA aircraft.

There was a picture of a cargo in Holland that went into an apartment building - I can't remember if it was Amsterdam or Rotterdam and I think the cargo was El Al - it was many years ago as well...

My vote goes to this pic (and the many variations of it taken from different angles):

Matt I think if you take it a step further you get this.

I thought of that one too, but I think the explosion shot got a lot more distribution than the split-second-before shot.

Tom, the pic you're referring to is the PSA 727 in LA.

So you only want fixed wing aircraft. Does this count??

That definitely get's my vote as being the most famous.

My other one would have to be this:

it's a bit sad that the most famous involve disasters though..
