Saw this article this morning, thought it might interest all you photographers here...not sure how relevant it is...

Well, the city claims it's not targeting amateur photographers with these rules, this is troubling. From the article:

New rules being considered by the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting would require any group of two or more people who want to use a camera in a single public location for more than a half hour to get a city permit and insurance...

The rules define a “single site” as any area within 100 feet of where filming begins. Under the rules, the two or more people would not actually have to be filming, but could simply be holding an ordinary camera and talking to each other.

That means if Tommy and I are out a Planeview Park or Howard Beach shooting photos, we could be in violation of this rule if we don't have a city-issued permit and liability insurance.

I just read this. I don't see how the law as it is worded now could possibly be constitutional.

Wow, that is a ridiculous law. If I were you guys I would write your mayor expressing how you feel.

Oh yea write Bloomberg. That would get results. He would probably come up with some idea like charging us some dumb ass fee to photograph in public places.

Which is essentially what this bill is set to do.

It says "Mayor’s Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting", not the Mayor. And at least Bloomberg is better than Mr. Corrupt Giuliani.
