Hi All,

QF’s New York blunder
THE Aviation Transport Safety
Bureau yesterday issued a report
into a May 2006 incident at New
York’s JFK Airport, in which a
Qantas 747 damaged a wing by
scraping it across a fence.
The aircraft was taxiing into a
landing bay under its own power
when the crash happened, with
200 passengers on board.
Nobody was hurt in the incident
but the crash necessitated the
replacement of the plane’s right
wingtip and saw it out of
operation for three weeks.
A US investigation found that
the flight crew had misinterpreted
instructions on how to park the
plane at the bay, and claimed
they were following hand signals
from a ground marshaller.
However the ground marshaller
said he hadn’t given any signals
apart from a wave to the pilots,
and didn’t believe the plane was
under his guidance when the
crash happened.
“The discrepancies between
reports from the pilots and
ground marshallers could not be
reconciled,” the report said.
As a result of the incident
Qantas now no longer allows its
aircraft to turn into the bay.

Does anyone know what the registration of this was?

Hey Glenn, hope all is well.

I believe the ship was VH-OEE. I remember seeing it from the AirTrain station as it was sitting outside the hangar awaiting repair.

Cheers,

Brian
