Chris Benoit & family found dead (WWE Wrestler)

WWE superstar Chris Benoit, 40, his wife Nancy and young son were found dead in their Atlanta home early this afternoon, this according to WWE.com.

No further details regarding the tragedy have been released. Benoit was scheduled to appear at a pay-per-view event last night ... WWE said that there was a "family emergency" that prevented him from being there.

Benoit, a former World Heavyweight Champ, wreaked havoc with his signature move, the "Crippler Crossface."

The incident comes on the heels of the shocking death of former WWE wrestler "Sensational" Sherri Martel, and the supposed "assassination" of WWE head honcho Vince McMahon. TMZ has learned that the WWE is scrapping all references to the McMahon death storyline on tonight's episode of "Raw.'

According to the official WWE website, tonight's "Raw" will serve as a tribute to the wrestling great.

Police are investigating the incident.

Sensational Sherri was a female wrestler, also, was the manager for Macho Man Randy Savage.

Yes, but as part of a different story line, Macho broke it off with Miss Elizabeth & signed on with Sensational Sherri...

Wow, who would have ever imagined that he was capable of doing something like this....

Something else that I read, was that Chris Benoit sent disturbing text messages that alerted the WWE to call the Police, I wonder what he wrote?

Depression, adultry, there are a million possibly things. Sad state of events in either case. It seems that by purpose or uncontrolable events recently as in the last decade wrestlers are dropping at a rate of at least one a year.

Maybe he was infact but unfortuneately something snapped. Like I said above perhaps something bad happened and he went over the edge but I do not think it is something that you can use to change judgement about him overall.

It's not like he yelled in anger or cursed at someone. He killed his family. If that can't make you change yourjudgement of someoen, what can?

The guy's a ****in loon and there's not excuse for that.....not amount of being "pushed to the edge" can justify that.

Theg uy's a wrestler.....it's not like he's saving lives. Any stress in his life would have been created by his own mistakes.

I disagree, granted he did something horrible in the end as an overall person previous to that is he bad? Maybe he had issues at home, maybe his wife cheated on him who knows but bottom line is I do not think that should take away from the fact that he is human and in life he probably was a great guy. I had a freind I went to school with freshmen and sophmore year of high school who is in Jail in Texas for a double murder homoside but he was a great person untill he got in with the wrong crowd. I am not taking away from the fact he committed murder and than took the ***** way out but I do not think he should have his entire life judge by people who never knew the guy and I never did either for that matter.

Well, I was checking MSN for the story and saw that FOX has a message board that is hundreds of pages long. All his fans said don't rush to judge, wait for the police report. Well, guess what, the police report said he strangled his wife and SMOTHERED his 7-year old son! Then waited a day to hang himself. I'm sorry, this man was a nut case, plain and simple. I did not pre-judge, I waited to hear what a savage he was from the police report.

WAS a nice guy. This does overshadow everything. If he was as kind as Princess Di, this would negate it.

The whole "snapping" thing doesn't work.....even for cheating. Anger is one thing, but he killed his CHILD.

It's shocking and frightening that you would try to justify and rationalize something like that. If he didn't off himself he should be fed slowly foot first through a wood chipper.

I again will state I am horrified by the fact that he killed his own kid Phil, as far as I am concerned after that point yes a wood chipperis a good tool but I was referring to past meaning previous to this event. Everything prior, know what I mean?  I do not justify this but no one knows the facts. Certain mental states create events that unfortuneately do not turn up well. Sheesh! He F^#ked up and he killed himself as a result.

2 Words.... Roid Rage...

Quite possibly that had something to do with it.

WWE really needs to end this steroid insanity.

Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio (still alive for now) are among many that had "normal" bodies prior to their time with WWE......

I wouldn't doubt if everyone in the WWE is on roids... Those guys are huge, and not in a way that can be accomplished solely through rigorous workouts and healthy diets....

But, that is what fans want, and as long as they want that, I think the WWE will continue to turn a blind eye, or even condone the use of steroids...

Wow, I just found out that Miss Elizabeth died three years ago from an "accidental" drug overdose. Seems she took pills and drank vodka. Nice combo. When will these "stars" ever figure it out that they have things in life a little better than everyone else.

Roid rage can make you angry, but I could not imagine killing your child over it. Sounds like something much more pyschological.

I think it's silly to try to blame steroids on this.

The news actually implied that steroids could be a part of this.

People have no idea about steroids. Roid rage might make you ANGRY, but it doesn't cause a long psychotic fit like that. No level of roid rage can make you take the time to tie upand strangulate your wife and then your CHILD, which takes minutes each at least. Roid rage would wear off quicker than that, and nothing can trigger enough roid rage to make someone think it's logicial to rub out your family.

This is a quote from the WWE site:

"The wife's feet and hands were bound and she was asphyxiated, not beaten to death...By the account of the authorities, there were substantial periods of time between the death of the wife and the death of the son, again suggesting deliberate thought, not rage."

I can't believe there's more common sense ona WRESTLING site than on CNN, MSNBC and FoxNews COMBINED.

People need to stop believing all the bull**** they read about steroids in the media. Steroids, guns and war are things that everyone's got a ****in opinion about but not an ounce of experience with.

To make this story even more ****ed up, the son had Fragile X Syndrome, which causes retardation and autism and it has been confirmed he was being injected with growth hormone. Benoit couldn't stand that his son was so small for his age, and he decided to start giving him steroids...that was one of the reasons his wife and him were fighting....

wow.

wow.

It has not been confirmed whether or not the injection was prescribed or not. The media is assuming he was injecting him with growth hormones because he couldn't stand how small he was. Growth hormones can be a prescribed treatment for some psychical disabilities. The media in record time has done a wonderful job of making up what they want this story to be from roid rage to child abuse...

Even O'Riley last night really was stretching it by saying the wife should have got out and if she did she'd be alive. Common no one can make that assumption, why people stay in abusive relationships is anyone’s guess. How often do we hear about woman getting out only to be killed? The only thing we know is he killed his wife and son, that's it, this story is a disgrace and the media has sunk to a new low.

Good point regarding the child Tommy.

But now check this out..curiouser and courioser...

Someone made an entry on Wikipedia regarding Benoit's wifes death at 12:01 am Monday - 14 hours before authorities found the BODIES.... and the IP is from Stamford CT.

That implies WWE involvement, yet if they had suspected something like what really happened, then there is no tribute show

Some kind of hoax?

And Benoit's steroid prescribing doctor had his office raided the week before?

More to the whole story perhaps?

ATLANTA (June 28) - Investigators are looking into who altered pro wrestler Chris Benoit's Wikipedia entry to mention his wife's death hours before authorities discovered the bodies of the couple and their 7-year-old son.

Benoit's Wikipedia entry was altered early Monday to say that the wrestler had missed a match two days earlier because of his wife's death.

A Wikipedia official, Cary Bass, said Thursday that the entry was made by someone using an Internet protocol address registered in Stamford, Conn., where World Wrestling Entertainment is based.

An IP address, a unique series of numbers carried by every machine connected to the Internet, does not necessarily have to be broadcast from where it is registered. The bodies were found in Benoit's home in suburban Atlanta, and it's not known where the posting was sent from, Bass said.

Benoit strangled his wife and son during the weekend, placing Bibles next to their bodies, before hanging himself on the cable of a weight-machine in his home, authorities said. No motive was offered for the killings, which were discovered Monday.

Also Thursday, federal drug agents said they had raided the west Georgia office of a doctor who prescribed testosterone to Benoit.

The raid at Dr. Phil Astin's office in Carrollton began Wednesday night and concluded early Thursday, said agent Chuvalo Truesdell, a spokesman for the Drug Enforcement Administration. No arrests were made.

Hours before the raid, Astin told The Associated Press he had treated Benoit for low testosterone levels, which he said likely originated from previous steroid use.

Among other things, investigators were looking for Benoit's medical records to see whether he had been prescribed steroids and, if so, whether that prescription was appropriate, according to a law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity because records in the case remain sealed.

Astin prescribed testosterone for Benoit, a longtime friend, in the past but would not say what, if any, medications he prescribed when Benoit visited his office Friday.

State medical records show that Astin's privileges were suspended for three months in 2001 at a Georgia hospital for "reasons related to competence or character."

Astin did not return calls to his cell phone from the AP on Thursday.

Anabolic steroids were found in Benoit's home, leading officials to wonder whether the drugs played a role in the killings. Some experts believe steroids cause paranoia, depression and violent outbursts known as "roid rage."

Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard said in a statement Thursday that he could not immediately comment on the raid.

Benoit's page on Wikipedia, a reference site that allows users to add and edit information, was updated at 12:01 a.m. Monday, about 14 hours before authorities say the bodies were found. The reason he missed a match Saturday night was "stemming from the death of his wife Nancy," it said.

Reporters informed the Fayette County district attorney's office of the posting Thursday, and the agency forwarded the information to sheriff's investigators, who are looking into it, a legal assistant said in an e-mail to the AP.

WWE attorney Jerry McDevitt said that to his knowledge, no one at the WWE knew Nancy Benoit was dead before her body was found Monday afternoon. Text messages released by officials show that messages from Chris Benoit's cell phone were being sent to co-workers a few hours after the Wikipedia posting.

WWE employees are given WWE e-mail addresses, McDevitt said, though he did not know whether Chris Benoit had one.

"I have no idea who posted this," McDevitt said. "It's at least possible Chris may have sent some other text message to someone that we're unaware of. We don't know if he did. The phone is in the possession of authorities."

On Thursday afternoon, the Wikipedia page about Benoit carried a note stating that editing by unregistered or newly registered users was disabled until July 8 because of vandalism.

In other developments Thursday, Ballard told the AP that 10 empty beer cans were found in a trash can in the Benoit home. An empty wine bottle was found a few feet from where Benoit hanged himself, Ballard said.

It could take several weeks for toxicology tests to be completed on Benoit to see what substances, if any, were in his system.

Benoit took four months off from work in 2006 for undisclosed personal reasons, McDevitt said.

In the days before the killings, Benoit and his wife argued over whether he should stay home more to take care of their mentally retarded 7-year-old son, according to an attorney for the WWE wrestling league.

The child had a rare medical condition called Fragile X Syndrome, an inherited form of mental retardation often accompanied by autism.

Chris Benoit's father, Michael Benoit, declined to comment on the slayings when reached Thursday by telephone in Alberta, Canada. Funeral arrangements were incomplete.

Associated Press writer Matt Apuzzo in Washington contributed to this story.
