Would you be able to see the shuttle launches from the TPA/PIE area ?

Great shots Senga and the Shuttle launches are awesome ! And NYARTCCFAN yes the Shuttle is visible from Tampa (as long as there are few or no clouds looking east), saw several when I still lived there back in the 80's. As a child growing up in Zephyrhills, about 30 miles NE of TPA, I was a big space program fan (my uncle and aunt both worked for Nasa) and with most of the Gemini and Apollo launches I would watch on TV until about 1 minute after Blastoff then I would run outside and see the contrail in person. One of the nice perks about growing up where I did, being only an hour from Disney was another !

Thanks for the compliments.
The last time I saw the shuttle lift off it was when I was at Myrtle Beach, during marching band trip in 1991 or so.

And yes, I did get "BURNED" because I was stuck at the flightschool when I should have been at the viewing places.

I'd like like to find out msyelf.....but my math knowledge doesn't go that high.
I guess its the curvature of the earth and the distance from the shuttle are the 2 main factors. I guess one would lose site of the shuttle before the curvature of the earth becomes a factor.

senga, who's flying that OV-10?

SengaB
2007-06-24, 05:00 PM
Matt,
It is operated by the United States Department Of State (DOS)
They have a few OV-10s there and their operation are still kind of shadey and not fuly known. But I did read that they are mainly used as anti-drug smuggling surveillance aircraft.
