This device is LONG overdue on AA, but still, I think it's a half-ass attempt to catch up to what other airlines have.

Put forth your money and change your seatbacks, AA!!!

Honestly, if the fee in Y class is reasonable, AA might do quite well. Beats having to lug around our portable DVD player if we can rent one on the plane. But then again, wondering how reasonable those fees will be.

And what and how much media will be preloaded into the thing.

If it's preloaded, it's most likely also "edited for general viewing". In other words it's not the same as the movie, parts are cut-out, dialogue changed, etc...

Well the problem is that AA has a ****ton of MD80s that they fly on long routes. The MD80s have no IFE, cept for maybe a funny flight attendant or a crying baby. In general, most other airlines operate equipment on similar routes that have IFE capabilities, so for them it's no big deal.

This is long overdue on AA. I think it will do well...

Like AS with their transcon's and the IFE just like this! I love them.
