Hi All.

Well, back before there was A.net, back in 1968, a Television ad appeared on local stations (and beyond) featuring a new "toy" - "Voice Control - Kennedy Airport".

The ad itself is not on YouTube, and I would guess there is a good chance the film no longer exists, but anyway, the toy was indeed based on John F Kennedy International Airport.

It featured a helicopter in the type of the existing New York Airways of the day (a Boeing Vertol), a recognizable Lear Jet and plastic aircraft in the brand colors of TWA, United and American.

Take a look --

Now maybe if the toy had been better when actually purchased than it seemed outside the box and on TV there might today be more plane spotters...(I had one, and it was a bit disappointiing..) but anyway:

Here's one for sale maybe?

That looks really cool. The complaints on that page aren't THAT bad. So you had to move the alnes yourself....come on. Most kids had toy planes that they did that with anyway.

When I was 9, I wished I had a large airport set to play with, so I made one out of carboard. Then when I was 19, I uploaded a pic of it to Anet and was almost banned by Unmuth. haha

The funny part about the above toy is that JFK apparently had Chinook helicopter service.

They did, sort of...New York Airways flew Boeing Vertol helicopters, a civilian version of the Chinook:

Thats the civilian version of the CH-46 which is the Boeing Vertol 107. The Chinook is the CH-47. Biggest noticable difference is the chinook has 2 front wheels and is wider.

Apparently it was part of a publicity stunt, the Vertol picked it up and flew around Manhattan carrying it.
