Don't ask Don't tell, proposed Constitutional amendment against gay marriage, recent comments by a Marine general about how being gay is immoral (with no reprimand or even a slap on his manly wrist), AIDS being called a gay disease until hetero's started getting it in droves and then the funding started coming in, the constant pandering of elected and people looking to be elected, of religious organizations,Christian, Jewish, Islamic, etc, who are very vocal about homosexuality being a sin, etc, etc. All this and more by both Dems and GOP, aka "our government". Just because they don't have Phelps' mouth doesn't mean the sentiment is any different. Or do I need to do more research?

Idlewild, did you watch that entire video? That family goes to the funerals of dead soldiers to tell the families that their sons and daughters must have done something "sinful" and they are being punished by God by being blown up while in combat.


Frankly, I think that comparing the views of this family to anybody in their right mind is bizarre in itself.

The Government has & is not condemning the Homosexual lifestyle, so, I don't know where you get your information.

In the Military, there is a compromise, that allows Gays to serve (don't ask, don't tell).

Even though Gays can not "legally" marry, domestic partnership laws are being voted into law.

What people have to remember is that the Homosexual lifestyle is still not an accepted lifestyle, and the Government reflects the people, to a point, which is wise there are exceptions & compromises.

As far as the history lesson of Aids, you are right & wrong, when Aids started coming out, it was isolated to the gay community & at the same time, nobody knew what the disease was.

Don't forget that Aids was being spread faster through the Blood Banks from Blood donated from Homosexuals that were carrying the Aids virus.

There is a time and place for freedom of speech, but what this family is doing is entirely disgusting. They should be exiled to a small island in the Pacific where their opinions can't be heard, because they don't have a right to express them in this manner of going to funerals.

Although I agree that the government and a lot of the American public needs to stop being so homophobic, the comments made by this family far outweigh any action or comments made by the current or past governments.

First off,

#1, From the video.... "made up from almost an entire single family.." So you are dealing with a bunch of inbreds.

I strongly disagree. David Koresh and the Branch Davidians were heavily armed, which is what led to their demise. The Phelps family is the American Christian equivalent of the Taliban with one huge exception: they don't want to kill anyone, they just want to tell everyone that we're all going to Hell. There is far greater danger that someone will shoot the Phelps than of them causing anyone else to be hurt.

Their message is so grossly and laughably unappealing that I don't think they're dangerous at all. Anyone who would be inspired by their ideas is already weak-minded and pathetic.

I am not sure "the Government" has a particular position on homosexuality.

Hollywood and Television has a fairly obvious pro gay stance...and its nominally regulated by Govt standards...

The Military has taken a nuetral stance...

Many discrimination policies/rules/laws in or applying to private industry seem to protect disccrimination based on sexual orientation.

Many publically funded school systems take a pro gay activist stance on homosexuality.

AIDS is (I think) a well funded health issue... relative to other diseases probably.

All kinds of well meaning (but probably dopey and dangerous) "hate crimes" legislation has been pased.

There remains antipathy towards homosexuality in some established religions, opposition to "gay marriage" on a grass roots level often, real homo phobia is professional sports, still considered a liability in intelligence ("spy") organizations I believe and so on..based on historical cultural norms the world over, but I don't believe the US Govt has distinguished itself as a premier "homophobic" entity in comparison to most others.
