Since the weather was decent yesterday I figured I'd stay on the Jersey side of Manhattan, rather than heading out to FRG as I'd considered, and went west to do some spotting out at Somerset Airport (SMQ) and Central Jersey Regional Airport (47N). Activity was a little slow, and I couldn't make a whole day of it like I'd wanted, but I still managed to get some photos.

SMQ

King Air rolling down the runway for takeoff:

After the King Air, the only thing going on was a Skyhawk doing some takeoffs and landings, despite the crosswind.

First try at landing ended up being a go-around:

47N
I decided to check out 47N (Central Jersey Regional), but it was even less busy than Somerset had been. I didn't really explore the area too much, as to whether there's more parking further up the road, but from the "near" lot the photo angle isn't great.

I caught this Skyhawk landing, and got this photo as he taxied off in front of me.

What's the point of shooting landings without a crosswind? There's no challenge to that

Nice shots, Phil.

Thanks. The panning is mostly accidental, actually. I was shooting in shutter priority at 1/125s to get some prop blur, at focal lengths generally between 100-300mm and I guess I just happened to get the right camera movement.

I've never actually had any panning shots come out well when I've actively tried to do panning, though.

Great shots, Phil. Hopefully I'll be working at SMQ this summer. The pic in my signature is from SMQ.

Fa on "Central Jersey Regional." It's Kupper, and will always be Kupper. My very first flight (I was 3 weeks old) was out of 47N.

During the summer, just as Somerset does gliders, there's a banner-towing operation that flies out of Kupper using Cessna Bird Dogs.
