This is a strange type of escalator

Looks like a moving sidewalk-type thing. Does anyone remember the old Times Square Store (TSS)? Their Hempstead store had something similar (OK, so this is back in the dark ages, the 1970s, before most of you were born) The parking lot was on the roof of the building, and you got your shopping cart there, then went down a sloped moving sidewalk escalator. The tread of the escalator belt was grooved, and the cart wheels had matching grooves that locked into it, so the cart would remain stationary as it went down the ramp. As a kid, I always wanted to just let it roll down the hill, but no, my father was always the killjoy :D

They have those at CDG and if anyone has seen the cover for the Alan Parson's Project, "I-Robot", in those tubes are sloped escalators at CDG terminal 1.
