March 4 (Bloomberg) -- US Airways Group Inc.'s automated kiosks are resuming operation after freezing at its main hub in Charlotte, North Carolina, and other cities when the carrier merged its reservation system with America West Holdings Corp.

US Airways' kiosks at Charlotte and four regional hubs couldn't communicate with the reservation network for several hours after the systems were unified as part of a 2005 merger of the two airlines, causing lines and missed flights.

The switch occurred by 4:30 a.m. New York time. Phil Gee, a spokesman for the Tempe, Arizona-based airline, said US Airways kiosks in Charlotte and Philadelphia are now working ``for the most part.'' Those kiosks are peices of **** anyways. IBM manufactured. It was hell yesterday though at LGA for sure. I went home at like 11PM with the worst headache in the world.

I recall the CTO over there talking a year and a half ago in a magazine about the challenge in integrating the systems. Could have been worse I guess.

It could have been much worse. Shares is a weird system though. I think there is a bit more operator error than system error though as far as around the East system goes because SHARES is a pop up based system while SABRE was a line entry based system. It is going to take time and errors on the East to get it all smoothed out.
