After seeing the photo of the model of the Worldport in Mario's post, I'm on a quest to maintain a model of the Delta/Pan Am Worldport for my 1:155 or 1:600 aircraft. I don't have any building skills and I have no idea how to start looking at places that would do this.

Does anyone here know how I would start or what something like this would cost?

I want that model of T2/T3! :(

I think your only options are to scratchbuild it yourself, or pay someone to do it. I haven't done much scratchbuilding (usually work from kits and add details as I go along) but you might try checking out some model railroad websites or publications, as those guys often scratchbuild structures for their layouts. You can get some good ideas for materials and techniques. Also, take a look at architectural websites, as most architechs have at one point or another, built models of buildings they design.

One thing you will need, if you are going to do this, is good scale drawings of the building.

Good luck!

Here are some shots of the AA terminal model at JFK. I believe it was somthing like 1:80 scale. If I remember correctly this model cost about $100,000. Shockingly, in 2003 they threw the whole thing in the garbage!

how in the hell do you throw somthing like that in the garbage!?!? I would have grabbed that thing painted it for detail and never let a person lay a hand on it without straps connected to them so I could yank them backwards

It was taking up too much space in terminal 8. You would think they would have found a place to put it, but it was BIG, in the ballpark of 15' x 15'! One day they just had the laborers take it outside and smash it. Such a shame.

Shame........ I could have gotten one of my dads trucks and that beauty would be in my basement right now instead of a stupid foosball table.

Shame AA trashed the model, but these are the same people that presumably by now have trashed the beautiful stained glass mural at the old terminal, so clearly they aren't big on nostalgia (except when it comes to keeping MD-80s for 25 years).
