Alright, I know NYC experiences this more than my little town, but it is very shocking to me.
Late morning today, there was a double homicide in my little town of about 2,000 people. This is the first murder in the area since around the 1960's (that murder was actually just down the road from my present house). This one was right across the street from one of my closest friends. I have actually passed this house on my bike before. Below is a link to a video about it, and an article.
Also on another note, I know both the police chief and the fire marshal that were interviewed in the video. Gives you an idea of how small our community is.

Couple Found Dead amidst Suspicious Fire
HAMBURG TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- A married couple were found dead Monday in their Livingston County home of 23 years by authorities who were responding to a fire at the location.
The fire did not appear to be the cause of death of the couple, Hamburg Township Police Chief Steve Luciano told the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus of Howell.
Police suspect foul play based on wounds found on the victims' bodies as well as preliminary indications about where and how the fire started, Luciano said.
Fire and police officials have identified the victims as John and Nancy Lowenbergh.
Neighbors said John Lowenbergh was a psychiatrist and that Nancy worked for the University of Michigan. They had lived in the home since 1984.
Two dogs in the home were rescued by neighbors.
