It's back and will hopefully be without rain and hail this year! :D

I'll be there again. Any type of weather this year will be an improvement over last year's! Last year was cold rain and a 30 MPH head wind. Making the U-turn on the runway never felt so good. I hope to see some of you there.

I'll definitely be there; it'll be my birthday treat to myself, and also my incentive to finally work on getting back into 5k shape.

Hopefully the MS Walk won't be on the same date this year but I have a feeling it might be. :(

Thanks for the info. I just joined their mailing list. Maybe we should all wear nycaviation t-shirt and run.

Good idea! I'm thinking of making a trip up to NY for the run/spotting this year. :)

As predicted, it looks like the MS Walk is on the 22nd as well.

My sister hasn't mentioned anything about it to us yet so maybe she is not expecting us in which case I would really love and try to do the JFK run.

That sounds pretty cool. I may be there. I may have baseball though.

I never did this before, so i don't know, but, if they are running on 13R, then wouldn't they have to close 4L too? In which case, the 2 primary takeoff runways will be closed.

They only use one end of 13R, down near the old Pan Am & TWA hangars, you won't be getting anywhere near 4L

Ok I'll bite and ask the lazy man's question...

Can we walk the 5K and spot instead of running? You would have to have some killer image stabilization to take a decent photo while running!

You can't get any pictures worth a dam from this walk unless something is parked near the old TWA hangar. Anything departing from 4 will be backlit to death. However if you've never been on the ramp or runway it is very cool.

does anybody have a map or something to show how this looks, and the path it will take?

The two main buildings on this image is roughly where the race begins:
http://maps.google.com/?q=JFK+-+John+F+ ... 4&t=h&om=1 (http://maps.google.com/?q=JFK+-+John+F+Kennedy+Intl+Airport&ie=UTF8&z=16&ll=40.650071,-73.808963&spn=0.007407,0.014634&t=h&om=1)
The race loops around the runway, so the farthest you get is before T1 (somewhere in the center of this view: http://maps.google.com/?q=JFK+-+John+F+ ... iwloc=addr (http://maps.google.com/?q=JFK+-+John+F+Kennedy+Intl+Airport&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=16&ll=40.642142,-73.80199&spn=0.007815,0.016201&t=h&iwloc=addr)) .

So after all the talk, how about a report? Who ended up going? How was it? It certainly was a nice day for a walk.

I arrived at around 8AM for sign in over at building 14. We were bused over behind the United Hangers to the Start/Finish Line. Race began just after 9. The weather was great as compared to last year. I had run in the monsoon last year. jetblue had brought over an E190, it was placed at the midway point of the race. Finished in 43:00 minutes besting my time from last year by more then 10 minutes. They had some raffles aftwards. They gave aways a bunch of flights on jetblue, Delta, Spirit, Aerosvit and Maxjet. It was alot of fun. The only members of NYCA that I saw were Gordon Jr and Gordon Sr.(who by the way finished 3rd in his age group).

This was the first year I did it, and the weather was great. It was my first 5K in a couple of years, and my training had been a couple of 5k runs on the treadmill in the gym. I ended up finishing in 29:38, which isn't that good compared to my times in the "days of old" but I'm reasonably satisfied with it, even knowing I could have done better.

I ran into one NYCA member, Jonesbeach, after I noticed the NYCAviation.com T-shirt.
