Planes clip on taxiway at JFK airport; No injuries
January 6, 2007, 8:14 PM EST

NEW YORK -- The left wing of an Air China plane backing out of a gate at John F. Kennedy International Airport clipped the tail of a Delta plane on the taxiway Saturday afternoon, but no one was injured, authorities said.

The Air China flight had 215 passengers on board and 23 crew members and was destined for Beijing, said Tony Ciavolella, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which manages the airports.

The Delta flight was empty because the plane was in a pre-boarding phase on its way to Nice, France, said Delta spokeswoman Katie Connell.

Both planes were taken out of service to repair damage. The Air China flight was rescheduled with another plane for Sunday. The Delta passengers were to take another plane at 7:10 p.m., an hour after their originally scheduled flight, Connell said.

The Federal Aviation Administration was en route to the airport to investigate the incident. No other flights at JFK were affected.

I'm guessing this clip occurred on the taxiway in between Terminal 1 and 2?

That's what it sounds like, and wouldn't that make for a second clipping there in recent months?

I assume both aircraft are grounded for repairs now?

I saw an Air China parked back near the cargo area...not sure if that's a pax one related to this.

Yep, it seems both planes (Air China 744 and DL 763) were taken out of service: http://www.airliners.net/discussions/ge ... n/3186112/ (http://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/3186112/)

Meanwhile, the FlyerTalk crowd was upset because the 763 taken out was equipped with the new cabin and AVOD IFE. The replacement bird wasn't.

Really not the fault of the crew, the plane was being backed out. Fault the ground crew which is prob outsourced.
