Its not sad at all. 2006 was huge year for Myspace and regardless of how you look at it Myspace has had a huge cultural effect on our society and has shifted social networking. Phil lots of people here have Myspace accounts including yourself and me. This move by TIME magazine is simply a representation of how society has changed socially. I think you need to look at it in the broader terms of what it means and not the slut that she appears to be.

Tommy this girl has no redeeming value whatsoever, unless you call making the cover of Stuff magazine and posting revealing pics of her saline balls on Myspace so every 14 yr old can go to their page and get their jollies. This is a big disappointment

I don't find her appealing at all, but this story does interest me. She isn't news. But the story under the pic IS interesting. No one cares about her being from Singapore, her personality, her music so that part of the story is bull****...she has friends for one reason and one reason only: T&A.

The fascinating part to me is I didn't realize that Tom actually invited her, which was a pretty brilliant move on his part. The impact of getting someone with 60,000 "friends" to move to a networking site WITHOUT SPENDING A PENNY is simply unbeatable. If not for her, MySpace might not have grown the way it did and Tom would be half a billion dollars poorer.

Nick I never said she had any redeeming qualities. You also shouldn't be disappointed in Time magazine, be disappointed in society itself. Time is doing a fantastic job at reporting what influences society and guess what, she's been a big part of influencing the on line community. Whether you like it or not she has. All Time is doing is reporting on that. The President of Iran is featured as well and he's no Saint either. I find it funny that people get so bent out of shape at who Time picks. Perhaps we should pick Johnny the good little Boy Scout and make him person of year simply because he's what we want society to be? Give me a break, the person of the year is someone who either in a good or bad way greatly influenced the world. Sadly Miss Drink with a worm in it did. Not Time's fault though.

I don't think there's any reason to be disappointed in society. It's human nature to want to look at attractive people. The only people deserving scorn are those who buy her CDs, but those customers remain very few and far between.

But that's just it Tommy, she has done nothing herself to warrant being a person of the year. Just becoming popular isn't a grand feat.

No one is denying that MySpace has done a lot socially, but that doesn't mean that some skank on the site that got rich off it has accomplished anything to warrant the same status from Time Magazine as people who have saved the world.

Just becuase more and more of society takes hold of the pathetic, that doesn't justify more and more people falling in that hole.

That is exactly why she made the list. Even with all of these negatives, she was able to become very popular and for that, it is pretty impressive.

Phil look at this from the broader sense. Time's selection is a representation of what that section of society wants. There have been a number of folks who haven't contributed anything good to society but have been spotlighted in TIME, Bin Laden, Hitler, and the President of Iran. The person of the year issue is to show what individuals are influencing society as a whole not who has done only good. It’s a broad representation of our world as it stands today. Sad as it may be TIME has done a good job at reporting it.

Why do you need myspaces? Do you actually look for friends over the internet when your not pissing off store managers?

I keep up with my friends in other cities that I have worked with etc etc... and my friends from school that is about it.

Ditto that....I know every single person on my friend list in one way or another, and it's the easiest way to keep in touch with my friends.

And, if you do it the right way, it's also a good networking tool.
