PIA has contracted a Malaysia 777-200 to fly for them due to Europe's recent ban on the airlines 747s.
The 777-200 has visited JFK atleast once already so keep your eyes out.

Interesting news, Gordon. Do you know why Europe banned PIA 743s?
I remember seeing a video on FL350.com of a Malaysian 777 taking off in MAN with a PIA callsign, it's pretty odd to see, but cool nonetheless.

I was looking for the answer to your question here:
http://www.historyofpia.com/forums/index.php
But couldn't find an exact answer. As far as I can tell all the 747-200s have been grounded and only one 747-300 is flying due to a refurbishment. I'm guessing the main reasons was a tech issue.

Darn that would have been nice of it was an airline that we don't get here.

I guess it will be a miss or hit since there isn't really a way to tell considering she's using a PIA call sign.

I thought I read the ban was lifted recently (past 3 weeks or so), no?

This is a gorgeous plane and I find this to be very exciting. I haven't seen a Malaysian aircraft since LA in 2004, and back then I couldn't believe how gorgeous the scheme was.

Incidently the reg on the contracted aircraft is 9M-MRE.
To answer Will's question I'm pretty sure only one 747-300 is flying at the moment with the rest of the -300s and -200s grounded.

Alright guys I have made a bit of a mistake here.
I based my facts on the comment from this photo:
http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=5875689
Which states that the aircraft had just arrived from JFK but a comment from a different photo of the same aircraft on the same date and time states that the aircraft was inbound from ISB.
From doing a search on ACARS it shows that AP-GBZ was the aircraft that actually operated into and out of JFK.
Not quiet sure if the aircraft will only do the ISB-MAN-ISB route or will continue onto JFK at some point soon.
Very sorry for the mix up guys

I'll bite. What is/would have been the significance of 9M-MRE?
