The following are registrations of the DC-10s that ATA will be taking on from Northwest to replace their L-1011 fleet. Two of them will be used for spares.

N223NW, N224NW, N225NW, N226NW, N234NW, N235NW, N237NW, N241NW and N242NW.

Sad to see the L-1011s go, but happy to see the ATA fleet expanding with some old planes. I've been so upset about not getting the chance to see the NW Dc-10s, and in a way, I'll get to see them, just in a different livery.

I'm still trying to learn the dates that they will take these on and end Lockheed service.

Excellent they won't be completely out of service.

I bet the ATA livery will look amazing on these birds. Hope to see one soon!

I think I read somewhere that Omni Air was also getting some of NW's DC-10's also. Assuming that these ATA birds will be IND based INDY will become DC-10 central as FedEx already flies a bunch in and out every day !

Cheers

Now I do want to understand this, that these would only be used for charters and military service correct? These will not be seen in passenger service?

*tries to imagine an ATA DC10 taking off from MDW into LGA*

A DC-10 can and has served LGA before with AA and UAL. These will be used for military charter flights.

I do recall seeing that before, It would be mad awesome to see a DC10 or even ride one out of MDW haha.

Actually Tom good point but the DC-10 has also served LGA with DL, NA, PA, and CO. I don't think we will ever see ATA's here not because of LGA but because of MDW ! A JFK charter would not surprise me though.

Cheers

Maybe a stretch, but who knows if ATa will start an IND-LGA route again with an occasional DC-10 sub after winter storms.

Or maybe if they restart LGA-SFO on Saturdays. High hopes, I know.

ATA doesn't serve IND at all anymore. They pulled that station down earlier this year. It only serves as their HQ, MX base, and charter ops. Don't look to see ATA start any other domestic routes. Anything in the future from ATA will be international with feeds from WN.

I never thought I would see the day ATA went back to the douglas birds after the DC10 incident many years ago. They pretty much wrote off the idea of flying MDC stuff. They even turned down a very sweet ofer on a bunch of mad dogs at one point.

Aww that is sad, but I guess there's no real home for L-1011s today, didn't have much success in the freighter market and charter cos. would rather have 767s. As far as I know there is no TriStar preserved in a museum anywhere, they may all be gone very soon.

Northwest Sells 7 Planes to ATA

Northwest Sells 7 Planes to ATA Airlines for Undisclosed Price

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Northwest Airlines Corp. has said it won't release details of a deal it has reached to sell seven airplanes to ATA Airlines Inc., calling the sale price "highly confidential."
ATA's undisclosed offer was the best of several for the DC-10s aircraft, which would have been too costly for Northwest to keep, the company said Monday in a bankruptcy court filing.

A hearing on the ATA sale is scheduled for Dec. 14 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan. Objections to the deal must be filed by next Monday.

Northwest, the fourth-largest U.S. airline by passenger traffic, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last September.

Last month, Northwest ended its use of the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 on trans-Atlantic routes and switched entirely to Airbus A330 aircraft. It said the wide-body jets, which can seat up to 298 passengers, have lower maintenance costs than the DC-10s and provide up to 30 percent in fuel savings.

Northwest has been selling off pieces of its fleet, which once included 24 DC-10-30s. The airline sold six planes to Omni Air International in July and two airframes to Charlotte Aircraft Corp. before it filed for bankruptcy last year.

The Eagan, Minn.-based airline said it wants to keep the details of the sale under wraps because it hopes to sell other DC-10 equipment.

"Revealing the terms of the sale to ATA will give potential purchasers of the remaining airframe and engines an unfair advantage in negotiating with the debtor," Northwest said in court papers.

ATA emerged from bankruptcy protection in February.
