What a Blow to Airbus, but I also understands Fed Ex needs for on time delivery and unfortunatly Airbus was not able to promise it. Good news for Boeing and the 777F program hope to see it succeed as well.

Just a guess, I would not be surprised to see UPS do the same thing.

That is definately a BIG blow for Airbus and the 380 - what a strike for Boeing though! I wonder if this is a crack in the floodgates for the cancelling of 380 orders??

it could be that other airlines were waiting to see what others would do, and loosing a launch customer is HUGH!!!! it could open the flood gates or others see it as an oppertunity to move up on the order list and lessen their delay.

If you are talking about UPS, I would bet that UPS is speaking to Boeing right now about the 747-800F, since Boeing is locking down the design....

Thing is, UPS & FEDEX need big airplanes, now.....

will Fed-EX have the 777 before they were scheduled to get the A380?

OOMPH!

That is jsut painful for Airbus. As great of an order it is for Boeing, I really pity EADS right now.

will Fed-EX have the 777 before they were scheduled to get the A380?

Just a guess, with the 777, FEDEX was probably more concerned with getting a firm delivery schedule, which is something that Airbus could not guarantee with the A380....

do they get their full deposit back?

Too bad, i'd love to see as many whalejets into JFK as possible.

I don't think we'd have seen them much anyway. I believe they were meant to fly mainly between their Memphis hub and points overseas.

Still, a huge victory for Boeing. UPS can probably renegotiate and get their 380s for a carton of smokes.

do they get their full deposit back?

Depends on the contract, but, you don't screw around with a company like FEDEX, so, I would take a guess that FEDEX would get their deposit back.

Yes they should. And anyone with a few hundred bucks to throw down (or $19.95) should pick one up before they do. (I just ordered the 1:250 plastic one.)

It's a shame, FX and UPS are the only US customers to order the aircraft, and I was hoping to see at least a Fedex one at EWR once and a while. UPS will probably be next, they've seemed hesitant about the order for a while.

Yep, I ordered the plastic A380 too....Now watch, we'll find a ton of them at the show this weekend!

Maybe UPS won't cancel their order, you never know what Airbus might do to compensate them.

shocked me, I was figuring a passenger airline to cancel first. I think will just lead to other cancelations from other carriers or the lack of intrest from carriers who were reviewing buying the aircraft.

Airbus has already screwed themselves with the A380, they can't start giving away A380's now.

Fed Ex was scheduled to get the A380 in 2010, but instead will get their first 777 a year earlier in 2009. Man did Boeing make the right call with the 787 or what!

The upcoming (December) issue of Popular Mechanics has a good rundown of all the A380's problems.

UPS still reviewing order for 10 airbus A380 aircraft
Last Update: 2:36 PM ET Nov 7, 2006

United Parcel Services Inc. (UPS) has made no decision yet on whether to maintain its order for 10 Airbus A380 freighter aircraft, a spokesman said Tuesday.

"Our internal review is continuing and we've made no decision," UPS spokesman Norman Black said in an e-mail.

UPS rival FedEx Corp. (FDX) on Tuesday said its FedEx Express unit had canceled an order for 10 A380s, citing the announcement by Airbus (ABI.YY) of significant delays in delivery of the aircraft. FedEx, the first Airbus customer to cancel orders as a result of the delay, has now agreed to acquire 15 new 777 Freighter aircraft from Boeing Co. (BA).

Last month, UPS executives said they had been notified via letter of the aircraft's delay and that the Atlanta-based shipper had requested more information about the matter. UPS, which was expecting its first delivery of the aircraft in the latter part of 2009, said last month it would evaluate alternatives to the A380 because it has enough time to do so.
