Ride on airport conveyor comes with trespass charge

Londonderry – Chris Jackson of Newbury allegedly decided to try what a lot of people only think about doing: finding out what it's like to ride a suitcase conveyor at the airport, police said yesterday.

And while many also wonder what would happen if they rode the conveyor past the flaps through which suitcases appear, the 23-year-old Jackson, too, found out, police said. It turns out it's not so funny after all, especially in a post Sept. 11 world.

According to court documents, police responded to a "panic alarm" at the north end of Manchester-Boston Regional Airport on Monday.

Londonderry Officer Ryan Kearney wrote that Jackson had ridden the belt into the secured area, where he was seen by Andrew Liukan, a baggage handler for Southwest Airlines, who then called security.

Londonderry Police Capt. Bill Hart said Jackson apparently had nothing more up his sleeve than having fun.

"It appears it was simply a prank," he said.

There was no security shutdown, Hart said.

Police arrested Jackson on a charge of criminal trespass, handcuffing him and putting him in the back of a cruiser.

Jackson is free on $5,000 personal recognizance bail and has been ordered to stay away from the airport. His trial is scheduled for Dec. 18 at Derry District Court.

hah. when i worked at FRG we had to load and unload all of the stuff for the Hockey players....and the way that stuff got thrown around....and well, i guess it's possible not to know if there is a person inside of one of their trunks, as long as you don't hear anything...because those things were heavy as all hell anyway...bad bad bad memories.

i only rode our carousel around the bagroom on a few occasions... though the belt from the ticket counter was the means to a few hilarious pranks that i've pulled on my agents in the past. good time... :D

I remember when I was 6 years old and my family immigrated, we arrived at the airport after a long flight across the pond on a DC8. I had never seen a baggage carousel before, and it looked... well, fun. Needles to say, my younger brother and I went for a spin. I don't know what my parents were up to, maybe they didn't see us. But my aunt, who was awaiting our arrival at the airport was able to see into the luggage area through the glass. She was looking to see if she could spot us in the crowd when she noticed 2 mischievous kids on the carousel. She later told me that she turned to her husband and said "I wonder if that's them".

Yup, it was a different world then. Never mind getting arrested. Nobody even said a thing. BTW, that was the last time I tried that. And if anyone is curious, it wasn't even that much fun.
