As most of you probably know Glenn Stewart from Australia was in town the past few days enjoying the sights and sounds of our neck of the woods. He arrived Tuesday night and did an excellent job of navigating himself from JFK to my house via public transportation and, I might add, he even managed to stop at B&H on the way.

Glenn is a good visitor. He'd wake in the morning, shower and dress and then I'd drop him off at the train station. He'd spend the day in the city doing the touristy things, take the train back and I'd pick him up. Back at the house he'd tell us about his day and then ... off to bed. That was his Wednesday and Thursday. Friday I was off from work and we managed to do some shooting together. Our first stop ... LGA's Planeview Park for some 04 arrivals during the sunny part of the day. I took a couple shots of him at LGA ...

Glenn catching an Air Canada 190 inbound to 04. Bet they don't have them downunder :D

How he coerced this NYPD officer in the van to let him stand on top of the truck I will never know. Must have been that Aussie charm.

We spent the morning at LGA while it was sunny, then moved to JFK for a few hours to watch the clouds roll in and the Sun disappear. Calling it a day I dropped Glenn off at the American Airlines terminal where he took the subway back into the city for some more touristy stuff while I headed home.

Saturday night Anne and I hosted a slide show to give Glenn the chance to meet many of the NY area photographers. We did our usual Chinese buffet followed by the slide show. Here's the group shot ...

Left to right standing: Senga Butts, Matthew Smith (flew in from Emery Riddle in Daytona just to be with us  , Anne, Matt Celmer, Tommy Alfano, Mike Primamore, Mario Craig, Phil Derner, Mel, Ron Peel, and Eric Dunetz. Kneeling in front: Glenn Stewart, Kaylie and yours truly. Alex from Denver with two others planned to attend, but the snowstorm preventing them from doing so. Maybe next time.

Before the group shots were taken the attending Canonites had to figure out how to set the camera up for an indoor flash shot. Take a look ...

Why haven't they converted to NIKON I will never understand

Good having you Glenn and looking forward to seeing you in Australia sometime soon.

And he's still ripping up NY. After a few hours at the Cradle of Aviation Museum, we drove into Manhattan and got him onto the last ferry boat to Ellis Island.

followed by dinner in Little Italy,

dessert at Max Brenner ,

some photo ops of the Manhattan skyline from Brooklyn,

a late night passing by Republic airport.

Oh, and he just drove down the road!!! on our side, the correct side of the road, about 30 minutes ago. Passed by 2 cops and it was no worries!

Tomorrow brings another day at B+H and spotting at JFK.

Hi All....

Has a great time in NYC (and NJ) so far. I'll be back for sure, and don't think because I'm leaving that I won't post from time to time.

Hell, after hearing about many of your weak A.net rejections, no doubt I'll be hearing from many of you before I get to post again :)

I'll have to post some of my New York shots when I get back to London. But if you're interesting in what I'm up to, then feel free to check out my trip blog (which contains itinerary)

Great to meet you, Glenn, hope you enjoyed your stay.

What's that saying - "Eagles May Soar, But Weasels Don’t Get Sucked Into Jet Engines". I guess Glenn isn't a weasel :!:

Back in London now, and absolutely buggered!
I flew BA182 back to London - thankfully a very short flight. But being a red-eye, it was painful. I got into London about 10am GMT this morning having had probably one hour sleep and a headache from a long island iced tea.

Heading off tomorrow morning to Dublin with Aer Lingus. I'm moving from long islands to Guinness, but I know it won't hit me as hard.

Thanks for the hospitality (especially Art, Anne, Mario and Shoshana). Naturally the invitation to come visit Sydney is on the table, any time. I think New York was a great way to introduce myself to the US (most Australians go through L.A. as a first stop) - and Sydney is certainly a first stop if you're coming to Australia.

A few little extra things....

I mentioned Vegemite at the dinner. That's the stuff that Mario described as being like sticking your tongue on a 9V battery.
See: http://www.vegemite.com.au/
I don't know how true the US ban is, but hey... I don't know many Americans who like the stuff anyway.

Another ban was put on the Australian Tourism ads. There's no folate in these, but it does contain use of the words "bloody" and "hell" - two words I think we say daily back home.
See: http://www.wherethebloodyhellareyou.com/tvc/index.html
(Btw - I love the taxi in the ad)

So, if you bloody turn up on my door step, I'll show you a bloody good time...!

It was a pleasure. But I told you, TWO Long Island Iced Teas were the secret, not one ;)

Too bad they are cracking down, that "So where the bloody hell are you" campaign is brilliant.

But you did get bumped up a class on BA, so... perhaps it was a bit worth it.

:)

til we meet again.

Look at the shadow on his pants/shoes and compare it to the top picture...

Ahh, ok, thanks. The thing that threw me off was the Shadow of the Police SUV, how do you put shadows into photoshop?
