JetBlue to announce flights from Stewart

Sometimes, good news comes in bunches.
JetBlue will announce tomorrow that it's launching service at Stewart Airport, Sen. Charles Schumer said this afternoon.
The major discount airline will announce flights direct from Stewart to Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, starting in December, Schumer said. The flights, five in all by early January, will be on 156-seat Airbus A320 jets with fares starting at $79, Schumer said.
Stewart wouldn't confirm the news and JetBlue spokesmen were not immediately available for comment. But other sources close to the airport confirmed it.
A formal announcement is expected at Stewart Wednesday morning.
"We've always believed in Stewart," Schumer said. "We knew its day would come and it looks like that day is coming."
Airport officials, Schumer and local business leaders have been working for years to lure a big discounter. Earlier this month, AirTran Airways announced it will start flights in January to Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale. Now, it appears, JetBlue is joining in, too.

So AirTran and jetBlue are going to be beating themselves over the head for customers? This should be an interesting battle, I'd say though AirTran offers more to the traveler with a greater number of connections through ATL then what B6 will offer. Looks like B6 is going for the point to point and net new customer base

I cannot wait for Airtran and JetBlue to start out of SWF. Although I work in Manhattan, I live just 30 mins from SWF and you can park right outside the terminal for next to nothing, unlike HPN, $28 a day !!! ABC news below.

(New York - WABC, October 24, 2006) - Sources tell Eyewitness News that Jet Blue on Wednesday will announce new flights between Stewart Airport and three Florida cities.

We're told that service between the Newburgh airport and Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando and West Palm Beach will commence December 19th.
A formal announcement is expected tomorrow when Senator Chuck Schumer joins airline officials and Stewart Airport officials for a news conference at the airport.

It was just a few weeks ago when AirTran Airlines, another discount carrier, announced it was returning to Stewart Airport.

Stewart has long been rumored to be at or near to the top of a short list of airports under study to become the New York area's fourth major jetport.

JetBlue Expands Service in the Empire State: Newburgh to be Low-Cost Airline's Sixth New York State Destination

NEW YORK, Oct. 25, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- JetBlue Airways (Nasdaq:JBLU),
New York's hometown airline, today announces it will begin service
between Newburgh's Stewart International Airport (SWF), the airline's
sixth New York State destination, and Fort Lauderdale and Orlando,
Florida, with daily nonstop flights to each city beginning December 19.
Beginning January 5, a second daily flight will be added to Fort
Lauderdale and Orlando. Additionally, one daily nonstop flight to West
Palm Beach, Florida will begin January 5, making the low-cost carrier
the largest airline serving Stewart International Airport.

To celebrate the new service to the low-fare carrier's 49th
destination, JetBlue is offering introductory one-way fares to/from
Newburgh starting at $79(a) each way, with regular fares ranging
between $99(a) and $299(a) each way. Introductory fares, which are
subject to availability, must be purchased by November 9, and travel
must be completed by February 15, 2007.

Newburgh customers will enjoy extra legroom, live entertainment options
like DIRECTV(r) and FOX InFlight(tm) movies at every all-leather seat,
