We were in ....San Francisco last ...Thursday when I saw a KLM MD-11 cruising way up high, so I didnt think it'd just left SFO. But where could it have been going to/ from? In other words, where do their MD-11's fly now?, serving what US cities?

Pretty sure you saw KL605/606 (SFO) Mario.

I'm guessing it was heading out over the Pacific to drop altitude and turn back for the approach to SFO?

SFO is the only U.S. city that KLM flies the MD-11 to currently.

As mentioned in another thread, EWR will get them for a little bit next spring.

Gordon, suppose you are right, where was it coming from that it can go from Europe nonstop to SFO?

Im not saying you are wrong, Im clueless :) But she was pretty high up, spitting out contrails. I guess it could be dropping altitude.

Otherwise, yes i know EWR will get it in the spring. I am awaiting and cant wait to meet those NJ cops when the time comes.

No doubt it was coming from Amsterdam, the flight has been operated by an MD-11 since sometime in June.

I was surprised to hear that a 767-300 could make it from Moscow to SFO nonstop as well from AMS and CDG.

If the MD-11 you saw wasn't a KLM aircraft I'm guessing it was probably a cargo MD-11 heading out over the pacific.

Haha, be sure to contact me! It's a bit difficult for me to get the JFK and LGA spotting meets, so if we could form one at EWR I would be game.
