a buddy of mine is coming to NYC, it's the same one that i visit a few times a year and work with in SNS at the airshows. he's been on tour with oracle all summer long and ACY is his last show. now, what the hell am i going to do with him while he's here? the intrepid is a definite, only because it's going away in the fall and i haven't been there myself. i think that the intrepid visit is going to sum up the aviation part of the stay only because he's been listening to turbines whirring overhead all summer long.
since the aviation time is going to be limited, i'm all out of idea on what to do. help!!

The Intrepid is going away?
Yes, it's being removed for maintenance/renovations. Leaving in October, won't return until Spring 2008, I believe.
As to what to do in NYC, there's a million things. Lot's of touristy type stuff (that most NYers never get around to seeing) museums, Empire State Building or the newly reopened Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center), etc.
Yep, drydock for repair.... He likes sailing....maybe a day out fishing???
Or maybe you could introduce him to local NY fan??? :D NUDGE NUDGE WINK WINK!

i thought of taking a drive out to the hamptons at least, and maybe montauk if i can manage to steal my old man's caddy. then again, screw montauk, fire island is closer.
anyone actually know where the intrepid is going to be in dry dock? wouldn't be the brooklyn yards would it? where was she built?

And the exhibits are also going to be put into storage for the time?

The Cradle of Aviation Museum in Uniondale might be a good idea.
Also take him out to the north fork--forget the Hamptons. There are wineries, and the little town of Greenport is very nice.
Just my thoughts though....

I beleive I heard its going to staten Island, first they have to dredge around it because the slit has built up locking it in

btw, they are also rebuilding the pier, that will take more time then the repairs on the ship, when they are done the Concord will be on the pier no longer on a barge/
